Washington County Jail Receives Positive Review Following 2026 Federal Inspection

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that the Washington County Jail has once again met all federal detention standards during its 2026 inspection conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS).

As part of the review process, Deputy U.S. Marshal Glenn Berg conducted a comprehensive inspection of the jail’s operations and facility conditions. The evaluation examined every major component of the jail, including inmate housing units, booking procedures, medical services, food service operations, recreation areas, visitation procedures, maintenance operations, and safety and security measures.

Federal inspectors found the facility to be well maintained, orderly, and operating in accordance with established detention standards. The review also highlighted the professionalism and cooperation demonstrated by jail personnel throughout the inspection process.

In addition to the on-site inspection, the U.S. Marshals Service conducted an extensive review of the jail’s policies, records, and operational procedures, including:

• Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) compliance documentation
• Jail policies and standard operating procedures
• Emergency response and contingency plans
• Inmate property and financial management procedures
• Accommodations and services for inmates with disabilities

The inspection determined that all required documentation was up to date and properly maintained.

According to Capt. Matthew Martin, “The Washington County Sheriff's Office remains committed to operating a safe, secure, and well-maintained detention facility. The recognition received from the U.S. Marshals Service reflects the professionalism, dedication, and teamwork demonstrated by our staff each day.”
