Sheriff Mark A. Warden
I began my career with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in 1987 as a Correction Officer and Dispatcher. I worked in that capacity for 5 years.
In 1992, I attended a Police Academy held at Marietta College and received my OPOTA certification as a Police Officer. I was assigned to the Criminal Division as a Deputy Sheriff. After three years, I was assigned to the Detective Bureau as a Detective and worked on many diversified crimes.
In 2005, I was assigned to supervise the day-to-day operations of the newly formed Major Crimes Task Force. This was a multi-jurisdictional unit in collaboration with the Ohio Attorney General's Office of Ohio Organized Crime.
After about 7 years, I was promoted to Major and was transferred to the Courthouse to work as an administrator supervising the Criminal Division.
Over the years, I was a Hostage Negotiator, SRT Member, Crime Scene Technician, and active Shooter Trainer for many organizations and schools.
Later, I was promoted to Chief Deputy and held that position until becoming Sheriff on January 5th, 2025.

”Cross Roads” is a program I developed to help children identify dangers as they grow up, such as poor decision-making. I back this up with real-life stories and bring individuals in to solidify the training. I am still active in this program and look forward to continuing this as Sheriff.
