⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a scam involving individuals emailing and requesting direct deposit information from employers, with the emails being signed with names of actual employees. The email address though is NOT tied to the employee.

These emails are fraudulent!!!!

Please do not provide banking details or any other personal information to anyone. If you are a business owner please do not release employee information other than to the respective employee.

It is believed that an accounting program (like purchased over the counter) was compromised by these subjects that are attempting to gain personal information.

If you believe you have been targeted by this scam or provided information to a scammer, contact the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at (740) 376-7070 ext. 0 and go to IC3.gov and file a complaint.
