​2 Sept 2025 at approximately 2242 hours Lt. Stillson responded to 1308 Williamson Avenue, New Matamoras, OH, to the residence of Samuel R. Ward.  Lt. Stillson was attempting to serve an arrest warrant on Ward.  A male opened the door, immediately being recognized by Lt. Stillson as Ward.  When the male was addressed, he replied "no, sorry, you got the wrong apartment buddy”.  He was then asked “you’re not Sam?”, at which time Ward retreated back into the apartment and closed the storm door. After Lt. Stillson made that statement Ward said “No.”  Ward forcefully shut the door on Lt. Stillson, but not before striking him in the face with the door. Once through the door Ward was restrained.  Samuel R. Ward, age 48, was placed under arrest on the warrant and also charged with obstructing official business and resisting arrest.   

3 Sept 2025 Deputy Huffer began an investigation into a theft from a banking institute.  This case remains under investigation. 

18 Sept 2025 Sgt. Huffer was dispatched to the Reno Dollar General, 27055 State Route 7, Marietta Township, in reference to a report by a customer of  his 2010 Subaru Outback bearing Ohio registration having just been stolen from the parking lot.  Deputies responded in an attempt to locate the vehicle. ​Deputy Welch was able to locate the vehicle southbound on State Route 7 near the Veto Road area, and attempted a traffic stop in his marked Sheriff’s Office patrol car.  The driver, unknown to officers at that time, fled from Deputy Welch driving at speeds in excess of 110 mph in a posted 60 mph zone. The driver continued driving in a careless manner on State Route 7.  At the intersection of State Route 7/US 50 and Farson Street, the suspect vehicle struck two cars, causing a large crash to occur.  Deputy Welch was able to apprehend the driver of the stolen vehicle, identifying him as David S. McDaniel, by his description.  Medical personnel arrived on scene and transported the subject for medical treatment.  A warrant was requested and issued through Marietta Municipal Court for the arrest of David S. McDaniel, age 41, 648 Brick Street, Middleport, OH, on a charge of grand theft of a motor vehicle and failure to comply with the order/signal of a peace. 

The following individuals were processed into the Washington County Jail 18 Sept 2025:

Christopher Alan McCallister, age 57, Griffithsville, WV, OVI, failure to yield at stop sign and driving while under the influence of alcohol/drugs, all misdemeanors.

There are currently 30 women and 91 men incarcerated in the Washington County Jail.
