​21 Jul 2025 Deputy Gerber met with ​personnel with the Marietta City Law Director regarding Dalton Burt violating ​a temporary protection order, between himself and the protected person.  The TPO ​states there is to be no communication in any way, however Burt attempted to make contact with the protected party in several different ways.  Deputy Gerber was advised that pending charges on Burt include intimidation and domestic violence.  A warrant was requested and issued through Marietta Municipal Court for the arrest of Dalton L. Burt, 430 Spears Hill Road, Stockport, OH, on a charge of violating a protection order.

21 Jul 2025 Deputy Groves began an investigation into a delivery driver being attacked by 4 dogs.  The driver was bit by one dog and after fleeing to the vehicle was bit a few more times.  This case remains under investigation.

12 Jul 2025 Sgt. Parks and Deputy Gainer were dispatched to Vickers Road, Barlow Township, to a report of a subject laying on the ground screaming that she was strangled.  This subject​ had been in a verbal argument with Derek Whytsell.  During the argument Whytsell grabbed the victim from behind and wrapped his arm around her neck.  Whytsell began squeezing the victim’s neck making it hard for her to breath.  The victim attempted to get Whytsell to let her go, as well as attempting to call 911 for help, however Whytsell took the phone.  Deputies were unable to locate Whytsell.  A warrant was requested and issued through Marietta Municipal Court for the arrest of Derek R. Whytsell, age 44, 167 Vickers Road, Marietta, OH​, for disrupting public service and strangulation.

22 Jul 2025 Deputy Gerber began an investigation into a financial scam in Watertown Township.

22 Jul 2025 Deputy Mays was advised that current WCJ inmate Andrew James Strock Jr. had an active warrant from the Wood County Courts, Parkersburg, WV, on a charge of violation of a protection order.  All information obtained through the booking process of Strock was compared to the information provided in the warrant to identify Strock as the wanted subject.  As a result Strock, 5509 6th Avenue, Vienna, WV, was charged with being a fugitive from justice.

23 Jul 2025 Deputy Wallace was on patrol in Waterford Township when she observed a traffic violation.  A traffic stop was initiated and a citation for marked lanes violation was issued to Bradford Duff, 807 Mitchell Avenue, Beverly, OH.

24 Jul 2025 Deputy Pugh met with an individual who had two black eyes.  It was reported that the injury occurred at Jason Szakal’s residence in Fearing Township​ approximately 8 days prior.  It was reported that Szakal and the victim were in an argument that turned physical.  Szakal was yelling in the victim’s face.  Szakal had the victim pinned against a dresser and she was unable to move.  The victim struck Szakal at that time with a closed fist​. In return Szakal​ struck the victim three times in the face.  After this occurred the victim attempted to call 911​, however Szakal would prevent her from leaving and took her phone​ from her.  Contact was made with Jason Adam Szakal via public service regarding the incident.  Szakal advised he did not want to make a report that he had already taken care of it​ himself.  Attempts to obtain Szakal’s side of the story met with negative results as he was not willing to answer the questions.  Later this date Szakal, age 45, 4505 Whipple Run Road, Whipple, OH, was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail where he was charged with kidnapping, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, disrupting public service and domestic violence. 

25 Jul 2025 Deputy Morris began an investigation into a burglary in Newport Township.  Items stolen ​were valued over $9,000.  This case remains under investigation. 

The following individuals were processed into the Washington County Jail 28 Jul 2025:

Andrew Don Creighton, age 34, New Matamoras, OH, theft, a misdemeanor, and burglary, a felony.

Nicky Lee Lamp, age 52, Marietta, OH, parole violation.

Julie Lynn Coe, age 66, Vincent, OH, disorderly conduct and breach of recognizance, both misdemeanors.

Isaiah Thomas Hinson, age 19, Nelsonville, OH, probation violation and violation of protection order, both misdemeanors.

Dustin Lee Brooke, age 38, Terre Haute, IN, assault, a misdemeanor.

There are currently 18 women and 88 men incarcerated in the Washington County Jail.
