16 Jun 2025 Sgt. Parks began an investigation into the theft of items in Barlow Township. This case is continuing at this time.
16 Jun 2025 deputies along with the Little Hocking Vol. Fire Dept. Squad responded to the scene of a deceased individual.
17 Jun 2025 at approximately 0440 a.m. while on patrol on State Route 7, Pioneer Township, Deputy Wallace observed a vehicle at the scenic overlook with a tail light violation. A traffic stop was initiated and conducted on the vehicle with OH registration and contact with the driver was made. The driver, later identified as Jeremiah Smith, first refused to provide a registration, proof of insurance and identification, as well as refusing to roll the window down so that Deputy Wallace could hear what he was saying. Deputy Wallace inquired of any weapons in the vehicle and Smith advised there was a knife to his right side by the center console. Deputy Wallace was able to observe the handle to an object which was wrapped in black tape on the floorboard. Smith was asked to exit the vehicle due to weapons being observed inside the vehicle, so that K9 Mauser could be safely deployed. Smith refused to unlock the door and exit the vehicle. Other deputies arrived giving assistance to Deputy Wallace. Smith was given multiple commands to exit the vehicle. After numerous request were made the driver’s side window was busted and Smith was removed from the vehicle. Jeremiah Michael Smith, age 44, State Route 550, Fleming, OH, was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail charged with obstructing official business.
