5 Jan 2026 Deputy Gainer began an investigation in Belpre Township of a theft.  This case remains under investigation.

5 Jan 2026 Deputy Groves began an investigation into a dog at large complaint in Marietta Township.

5 Jan 2026 at approximately 1329 hours, Deputy Tucker responded to State Route 821, Muskingum Township, to a report of a male parked in the parking lot that appeared to be nodding off. Deputy Tucker made contact with the driver, David Wolfert, who at the time had his head in a downward position as if he was nodding off.  A knock at the window made Wolfert pick up his head and roll down the window.  Wolfert stated he was scratching lottery tickets, not nodding off.  Wolfert was asked if he had anything illegal in the vehicle, and he stated no.  Deputy Tucker noted Wolfert appeared to be concealing something, however Wolfert stated he was not. Wolfert was advised that K9 Ozna would be deployed for an open air sniff.  Wolfert was again asked if there were any illegal narcotics in the vehicle and again he stated no. K9 Ozna was deployed and indicated on the vehicle.  During the search of the vehicle a metal smoking device was located in the area where Wolfert appeared to be concealing something.  Also, remnants of a crystal-like substance was located on the driver’s floor.  Wolfert was advised that he would be going to jail and was asked if he had anything on his person.  Wolfert admitted to having a foil piece in his wallet containing fentanyl, and admitted to the metal smoking device being his. David J Wolfert, age 47, 765 Schau Road, Lowell, OH, was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail on a charge of tampering with evidence.  The narcotics will be sent for testing and additional charges are pending.               

5 Jan 2026 Sgt. Parks assisted the Marietta Police Department in reference to an arrested female.         

6 Jan 2026 Deputy Pugh began an investigation into a breaking and entering at a business on Gravel Bank Road.  This investigation in continuing.

6 Jan 2026 deputies along with the Wesley Vol. Fire Department responded to the scene of a deceased individual.

The following individual(s) were processed into the Washington County Jail between 9 Jan 2026 and 10 Jan 2026:

 Lisa Mae Henthorne, age 43, Beverly, OH, speed, a misdemeanor.

Cory Michael Louive, age 34, Marietta, OH, domestic violence, a felony.

Kelly Scott Goins, age 46, Malta, OH, probation violation, a felony.

Tony Ray Fischer, age 63, Malta, OH, burglary, complicity in the commission of an offense, theft of a firearm, having weapons while under disability, tampering with evidence, all felonies, and receiving stolen property, a misdemeanor.

Rayburn Bragg Buchanan, age 50, Marietta, OH, breach of recognizance, a felony.

Willison Chester Lockhart, age 52, Belpre, OH, possession of drugs, tampering with evidence, both felonies, and possessing drug abuse instruments, a misdemeanor.

There are currently 28 females and 100 males incarcerated at the Washington County Jail.
