Washington County Jail Successfully Completes 2025 U.S. Marshals Service Detention Facility Review
Marietta, Ohio – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the successful completion of the 2025 Detention Facility Review (DFR) conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) for the Northern District of West Virginia.
The inspection, led by Deputy U.S. Marshal Glenn Berg on May 22, 2025, included a thorough evaluation of all major operational areas of the Washington County Jail, located at 101 Westview Ave in Marietta. Areas inspected ranged from booking, housing, medical, and kitchen sections to recreation, maintenance, visitation, and chemical storage.
The USMS review noted that “all areas were clean and in order” and praised the professionalism of the Washington County Jail staff throughout the inspection.
In addition to the physical inspection, the review included an audit of key documents and procedures such as:
· The most recent PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) audit
· Jail Policies and Procedures
· Emergency Contingency Plans
· Personal Property and Inmate Funds protocols
· Accommodations for Prisoners with Disabilities
All records were found to be current and well-maintained.
The report also highlighted the recent implementation of the I.G.N.I.T.E. Program, an innovative initiative aimed at reducing jail misconduct and recidivism. Staff reported a noticeable decline in misconduct incidents within just one month of the program’s launch.
Major Kevin Carr, Jail Administrator, responded to the report by stating:
“We take pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and professionally operated detention facility. The positive feedback from the U.S. Marshals Service reinforces the hard work and dedication of our team.”
The Washington County Jail remains committed to upholding the highest standards of inmate care, facility maintenance, and operational integrity in its ongoing partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service and other law enforcement agencies.
