22 Oct 2025 Deputy Talarico spoke with subjects regarding harassment via Snapchat. The subject, Vincent Groeber, had previously been warned on charges if this activity continued. During the time that Groeber met with Deputy Talarico he continued to be disrespectful, yelling at the deputy using vulgar language. Groeber also stated “I will still be texting her, you’re not gonna stop me, and I am not gonna be charged for it.” Deputy Talarico advised the victim to notify him if the behavior continued. Deputy Talarico obtained proof of Groeber again texting the victim. After completing the investigation Deputy Talarico will be requesting a warrant for the arrest of Vincent J. Groeber, age 30, 1561 Compostella Road, Chesapeake, VA, on a charge of telecommunications harassment through Marietta Municipal Court.
23 Oct 2025 Deputy Norris began an investigation into a theft from a local business in Marietta Township. This case investigation is ongoing.
23 Oct 2025 Sgt. Parks and Deputy Tucker responded to Danas Run Road, Newport Township, to attempt an arrest on Mary Brooks on an outstanding warrant. Deputies knocked on the front door and observed two female subjects through the rear of the residence. One female quickly ran to the rear of the residence. Deputies made contact with this female, identified as Kylee Nicole Brooks. Brooks attempted to convince officers multiple times that they did not see two females. After conducting a search of the residence, Mary Brooks was located hiding in a dresser (hollowed out) and was wearing a bright blue shirt (which was observed earlier). Brooks finally admitted she lied to officers stating she was sorry, and sorry for all the times she lied to officers. A summons is being requested for Kylee Nicole Brooks, 308 Maple Street, Marietta, OH, on a charge of obstructing official business. Mary Brooks was placed under arrest on her warrant and transported to the Washington County Jail for processing.
24 Oct 2025 Deputy Pugh was dispatched to conduct a welfare check in Marietta Township. Investigation revealed Kristi L. Carpenter and Gary L. Harris were involved in a fight, where Carpenter slapped Harris in the head, and he retaliated by choking her. Both subjects were cited for disorderly conduct by fighting.
26 Oct 2025 Deputy Davis was patrolling Sealy Ridge Road, Dunham Township, when he observed a maroon SUV with OH registration sitting partially in the roadway stationary in front of a residence. The vehicle appeared to be running. Deputy Davis activated his emergency lights and approached the vehicle making contact with the operator, Matthew Nixon. Nixon was asleep, in the driver seat. While Nixon was looking for his driver’s license, a clear plastic cylinder was observed on the center console near the gear shift. Inside the cylinder was a clear crystal-like substance which was recognized as methamphetamine. Nixon was advised to step from the vehicle in which he was detained. The container and methamphetamine weighed approximately 1.84 grams. Matthew Sanford Nixon, age 43, 1004 Orchard Street, Marietta, OH, was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
27 Oct 2025 Deputy Gainer began an investigation in Wesley Township concerning damage done to Township equipment.
27 Oct 2025 Deputy Tucker responded to Adams Township to a report of Michael Christian being at a residence intoxicated, making statements of self-harm. Christian was behind the residence very intoxicated. Christian was not able to maintain his balance. Christian became aggressive towards officers and began kicking at deputies. Christina was placed in hand restraints and was later transported for evaluation and medical treatment. Once at the Washington County Jail, Christian became aggressive towards jail staff. Marietta FD EMS transported Christian back to the hospital. Christian continued making threats towards EMS and jail staff during the transport. Michael Lee Christian, age 27, Charleston, WV, was charged with aggravated menacing.
29 Oct 2025 Deputy Bush was dispatched to the office to speak with an individual regarding Joshua E Sargent, sending explicit pictures/videos to an individual. The caller advised a subject known to them had sent pictures/video to a new acquaintance without their consent. Sargent sent the video via Facebook, just minutes after being released from the Washington County Jail on a domestic violence charge. Sargent was located and placed under arrest. Sargent, 520 Philips Street, Marietta, OH, was charged with dissemination of an image of another person.
30 Oct 2025 Deputy Bush responded to a burglary in Barlow Township. Forced entry was used to gain possession of items that were stolen. This case remains under investigation.
31 Oct 2025 Deputy Gainer responded to Belpre Township to a burglary complaint. This case remains under investigation.
31 Oct 2025 Deputy Pugh was dispatched to Warren Township in reference to a verbal argument between David A. Garnes, and another. A verbal argument between Garnes and the victim at the Lafayette Hotel and continued out into Warren Township where it turned physical. Garnes had broken the victim’s fingernail and the rear view mirror of the vehicle. No other injuries were reported, however later it was discovered that the victim had red marks on her neck. Garnes also threw the victim’s phone to the ground, shattering it. Garnes advised nothing physical had taken place, and it was just a verbal argument. David A. Garnes, age 36, 120 9th Street, Parkersburg, WV, was placed under arrest for assault and criminal damage/endangering.
1 Nov 2025 Deputy Norris was dispatched to Salem Township to a breaking and entering and theft. Items of value were removed and this case remains under investigation.

Natalie Ann Benton, age 40, Marietta, OH, possession of criminal tools, disrupting public service, law/emergency personnel 2 counts, felonies, and obstructing official business, a misdemeanor.
Matthew Jacob Trezza, age 30, Mineral Wells, WV, breach of recognizance, breaking and entering, both felonies, and theft, a misdemeanor.
Brittany Dawn Lane, age 39, Reedsville, OH, assault, a misdemeanor.
Austin Michael Dante Barnhart, age 27, Belpre, OH, theft, a misdemeanor.
Tamara Sue Nichols, age 64, Vincent, OH, criminal damaging, a misdemeanor, burglary and theft, both felonies.
David Andrew Garnes, age 36, Parkersburg, WV, assault and criminal damaging, both misdemeanors.
Andrew Peters Smith, age 62, Somerset, OH, failure to reinstate O/L, a misdemeanor.
There are currently 23 women and 90 men incarcerated in the Washington County Jail.
