4 Sept 2026 inmate Chaden Christopher Bruce, 612 Second Street, Marietta, OH, was ordered to return to his cell at the Washington County Jail. Bruce then ran towards a Corrections Officer and jumped, striking the CO on the side of the face with a closed fist. A charge of assault was filed on Bruce by Lt. Timberman.
5 Sept 2026 Deputy Bush began an investigation into a stolen gun from a vehicle while at the Washington County Fair.
6 Sept 2026 Deputy Huck was travelling on Muskingum Drive when he observed a red Chevrolet bearing OH registration exit a business lot. After observing the driver commit a traffic violation, Deputy Huck conducted a traffic stop and met with the driver, Ashley Metcalf. Metcalf’s eyes appeared to be glassy and watery. In speaking with Metcalf, she continued to slur her words and admitted to drinking at a wedding prior to the stop. A request to complete field sobriety testing was agreed to in which she performed poorly on the tests. Metcalf was placed under arrest for OVI and was additionally charged with 2 counts of child endangerment due to her two children being in the vehicle. Metcalf was transported for a breath test, with the results being 0.132 BAC. Metcalf was then transported to the Washington County Jail.
6 Sept 2026 at 1008 hrs. Deputy Moss was stationary on Main Street near Washington Boulevard, Belpre, OH. A silver Toyota SUV displaying WV registration passed Deputy Moss. A check of the registration revealed it had expired on 06/01/2025. While behind the Toyota, the driver made an abrupt left turn onto Walnut Street, without signaling the required 100 feet, and a traffic stop was conducted. Contact was made with the operator, who was accompanied by two male passengers. A permission to search was asked for and granted. All occupants were removed from the vehicle for the search. Prior to the search, a pat down was conducted on the subjects. One occupant, Devan Sunderman, was observed making a quick gesture with his hand from near his waste band to his mouth. The individual aggressively swallowed and began uncontrollably coughing, leading one to believe he had just consumed something. The subject was confronted about possibly eating something that he should not have, but he denied doing so. A short time later, Sunderman was advised of his Miranda Rights and he confessed he had eaten a small baggie that contained a very small amount of methamphetamine. A search of his backpack revealed a set of electronic scales, a hypodermic syringe, and a broken smoking pipe with a crystal like residue in it. Sunderman confessed these items were his as well. Devan Jacob Sunderman, age 27, Belmont, WV, was placed under arrest and charged with tampering with evidence. Sunderman was transported to the Washington County Jail.
6 Sept 2026 at approximately 2010 hours, Deputy Huck was dispatched to Adams Township in reference to a shade on the post office being open. Contact was made with the post master and learned the window had been secured on 5 Sept 2026 and should not be open. The window was observed to be open halfway and one of the locks on the window had been previously broken, however the other lock worked until this incident occurred. Several unsecured doors were located. Also noted on a desk in the mail room was a note with several derogatory images and racial slurs. Juvenile subjects had been seen outside the building, and it had been confirmed that they went inside. After completing the investigation it was determined that three subjects would be summoned into Washington County Juvenile Court.
6 Sept 2026 while sitting stationary in a marked sheriff’s cruiser Deputy McElroy observed a 2015 Cadillac XTS, bearing WV traveling westbound in the 1200 block of Washington Boulevard. The vehicle appeared to be traveling well over the posted speed limit of 35 mph, estimated to be 60-70 mph. Deputy McElroy pulled out as the vehicle began to brake and attempted to catch up to it, observing the vehicle turn onto George Street and heavily accelerate again. Deputy McElroy was traveling approximately 40 mph when the vehicle stopped gaining distance on the marked sheriff’s vehicle, being a residential 25 mph zone. The emergency lights were activated and the operator tapped his brakes before continuing to travel northbound, over the posted speed limit. The vehicle then briefly stopped for the posted stop sign and turned left onto Elizabeth Street. I activated my audible sirens and advised dispatch as the vehicle proceeded approximately 3 more blocks before slowly bringing itself to a stop in the 1800 block of Elizabeth Street. The driver was ordered to shut the vehicle off and throw his keys out the window. The operator, later identified as Mason Reid Harris, began arguing with Deputy McElroy, stating “Just take me to jail.” Harris then exited the vehicle and refused commands to stay in the vehicle and approached Deputy McElroy while his service weapon was drawn. Harris then stated, “Just shoot me please.” Deputy McElroy holstered his weapon and took Harris to the ground. Harris briefly resisted arrest and Deputy McElroy was able to force his hands behind his back at which time he gave up. Once inside the cruiser Harris began aggressively kicking the side window bars of the cruiser and had to be removed. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed a small baggie of suspected methamphetamine in the driver’s door pocket, a small baggie of suspected methamphetamine residue in a wallet on the front seat, and a loaded Glock 9MM handgun under the driver’s seat.
During the incident with Harris, 2 females approached the area and stood in the middle of the roadway. While Deputy McElroy was conducting the investigation, Tracey Dawn Boggs, began interrupting him. Boggs made it very difficult to keep the attention to Harris and the investigation and had to be ordered to stand over on the sidewalk. Boggs eventually did so argumentatively. Boggs then exited the sidewalk and stood at the edge of the roadway where she yelled for the arrestee and argued with officers. Boggs then stepped back in the roadway and was warned in reference to obstructing and she left. Boggs then returned a short time later and immediately yelled for the arrestee again. Boggs was again ordered to stand on the sidewalk but argued instead as she walked to the road. At that time Deputy McElroy placed Tracey Dawn Boggs, 1716 Elizabeth Street, Apt. A, Belpre, OH, under arrest charging her with obstructing. Mason Reid Harris, 1704 Park Street, Parkersburg, WV, was charged with failure to obey the signal or order of a police officer, obstructing, resisting arrest, possession of drugs, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, reckless operation, and turn signal violation. Boggs and Harris were processed in at the Washington County Jail.
