9 Jul 2026 at approximately 0140 hours Deputy Moss observed a white Volkswagen displaying Ohio temporary registration traveling on Walnut Street, Blennerhassett Avenue.  The registration was hardly visible due to the lack of rear plate lights. A traffic stop was conducted and contact made with the driver, William Ward. Deputy Wallace assisted and deployed the narcotics K9 for a free air sniff that resulted in a positive indication. Ward and his passenger, Jerry Dawidziak, were removed from the vehicle and a probable cause search was conducted.  Dawidziak was observed tossing a piece of tinfoil on the floorboard of the vehicle, later confessing it was illegal drugs. During the search of the vehicle, a small baggie of a crystal-like substance was found in a backpack, along with a piece of tinfoil with suspected fentanyl.  Another piece of tinfoil suspected to contain fentanyl was located in Ward’s wallet. Both Ward and Dawidziak confessed to possession of the substances and what they contained after being advised of their Miranda Rights.  Jerry R. Dawidziak, age 40m, 534 Fifth Street, Parkersburg, WV, and William J. Ward, age 42, 705 Barclay Street, Belpre, OH, were arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail for possession of drugs.
