Crime Scene Unit
The Crime Scene Unit is a team of officers who
carefully comb crime scenes collecting forensic evidence for
later use in criminal proceedings.
At the crime scene each officer is assigned a
different task. Some of the duties are collecting physical evidence,
taking photographs, dusting for fingerprints, and examining
fiber evidence.
The Crime Scene Unit utilizes different pieces
of equipment such as vacuums for fibers and hair, plaster for
moldings of shoe and tire tracks, a kit to take dental molds
of a victim’s teeth for identification and other purposes,
biohazard suits and portable lights. Extensive training and
hi-tech equipment are the essential tools for this unit.
The Crime Scene Scope enables the detective bureau
to detect forensic evidence that otherwise might not have been
discovered.
Twenty-year-old crimes can now be re-opened and
re-investigated using new technologies and equipment.
The Crime Scene Unit has investigated more than
500 crimes since 1992 when the unit was first activated, 180
of them have been death investigations.
Many of these crimes have been solved thanks to
the efforts put forth by the Crime Scene Unit.
