On 10 Mar 14 Lt. Stackpole and the Little Muskingum
Fire Department responded to a brush fire on the property of
Rose Murray, age 54, at 4805 Zion Ridge Road, Marietta. Ms.
Murray left a pile of burning trash unattended for approximately
fifteen minutes and during that timeframe the fire spread to
a nearby hillside. The fire department extinguished the fire
without incident. The fire burned nearly half an acre of brush
but did not cause any other damage.
On 10 Mar 14 Deputy Sheriff Metts requested
a warrant for John L. Clark, age 42, 1685 Wynncrest Drive, Marietta,
for breaking and entering and for driving under a suspended
license. Two days earlier a witness observed Mr. Clark at Wilson
Energy, 11441 Veto Road, Marietta, loading scrap metal and pump
weights into the bed of a pickup truck. Mr. Clark claimed he
had permission to take the items but a business employee stated
no one granted permission to Mr. Clark to remove the property.
On 10 Mar 14 Richard E. Thomas, 63, 29 E. Liberty
Street, Newton Falls, OH, reported at some point since the first
week of January an unknown suspect(s) entered his hunting cabin
on State Route 260 in New Matamoras. Stolen from the cabin were
gun cleaning supplies, lanterns, a clock and decorative items,
valued at a total of $137. This case remains under investigation
On 10 Mar 14 Deputy Sheriff Hunter responded
to the scene of death of a fifty-two year old New Matamoras
resident. The woman’s death appears to be due to natural
causes; no foul play is suspected.
On 10 Mar 14 the renters of two storage units
at 676 Mini Storage, 20959 State Route 676, Marietta, reported
their personal locks were removed from their units and replaced
by a different lock. When the renters inspected their units
they determined a stereo, an air mattress and a large tote of
Star Wars figures were stolen from one unit and a customized
racing ATV from the other. The value of the ATV is approximately
$10,000 and the total of the other items is estimated at $780.
This case remains under investigation (912).
On 10 Mar 14 Deputy Sheriff Reeder and the
Beverly and Watertown fire departments responded to a fire on
property owned by Christina Taylor, age 44, at 3300 Kloes Road,
Waterford. That evening, one of the home’s residents looked
out a window and observed a small fire in the yard. Before the
fire departments could extinguish the fire, it torched between
two and three acres. The fire did not damage any other property.
On 10 Mar 14 a two year old Belpre resident
received treatment at Camden Clark Hospital for a dog bite she
suffered at her grandparents’ home on Roddy Road in Vincent.
The German shepherd nipped the toddler in the face after she
accidentally tripped and fell on the eight year old dog. The
toddler suffered a minor puncture wound and scratches on the
left side of her face (597).
On 10 Mar 14 Gary Hanlon, age 63, 4403 10th
Avenue, Vienna, reported he recently discovered an unknown suspect(s)
kicked open the door to his log cabin at 490 Old Camp Road,
New Matamoras. Mr. Hanlon said nothing appeared out of the ordinary
inside the cabin and that the only item that could possibly
have been stolen was a box of .380 ammunition. This case remains
under investigation (1104).
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Timothy Ilan Clifton, age 27, 4616 Federal
Road, Coolville, for theft and for breach of recognizance, both
misdemeanors. Clifton was arrested by Patrolman Hively at the
Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 10 Mar 14 at 10:43 am.
Nicholas John Durbin, age 29, 43 Leighann Drive,
McConnelsville, for violating the terms of his parole, a felony.
Durbin was picked up at the Guernsey County Jail by Deputy Sheriff
Gerber and processed into the Washington County Jail on 10 Mar
14 at 11:15 am.
Scott Allen Johnson, age 38, 708 Virginia Street,
Marietta, for failure to appear, a misdemeanor. Johnson was
picked up at the Belmont County Jail by Deputy Sheriff Malone
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 10 Mar 14 at
Beamond Lee Thompson, age 33, 110 Knox Street
Apt. 25, Marietta, for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Thompson
was arrested by Patrolman Dennison at the Marietta City Police
Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on
10 Mar 14 at 5:24 pm.
Brandon Michael Schmidt, age 23, 830 Ridge
Street, Marietta, for theft and for criminal damaging, both
misdemeanors. Schmidt was arrested in Marietta by Patrolman
Hively at the Marietta City Police Department and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 10 Mar 14 at 7:28 pm.
