On 21 Feb 14 Deputy Sheriffs Augenstein and Call and the Belpre, Dunham and Little Hocking fire departments were dispatched to a fire at the Riverview Financial Building at 201 Ayers Boulevard, Belpre. Employees at the building reported smelling smoke in the waiting area and later observed flames coming from the outdoor part of the same area. The cause of the fire is unknown but it does not appear to be suspicious in nature. The fire, which was extinguished without incident, caused moderate damage.

On 21 Feb 14 Robert E. O’Brien Jr., age 31, 343 Main Street, Lower Salem, reported when he returned home after getting dinner in Marietta the front door to his home was ajar. Mr. O’Brien said nothing appeared to be missing but he noticed four mounted deer heads were on the floor and a fifth was moved to another position on a wall. This case remains under investigation (509).

On 21 Feb 14 Deputy Sheriff Carr responded to the scene of death of a seventy-nine year old Marietta resident. The woman’s death appears to be due to natural causes; no foul play is suspected.
