On 12 Oct 13 Jay E. Lucas, age 39, 573 Southland Cemetery Road, Cutler, reported his 2004 Ford F-150 was stolen from outside his residence between midnight and 1 am. Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle two days later on Marietta Run Road approximately a mile and a half from the intersection of State Route 329. The Deputies noticed the passenger side seat was burned in an ill-fated attempt by the suspects to ignite the entire vehicle. Also inside the truck, the Deputies observed a container of lighter fluid. This case remains under investigation (592).

On 12 Oct 13 Deputy Sheriff McPeek issued a citation to Brian D. Woodby, age 29, 50 Wilson Avenue, Newport, for traveling 76 mph in a 55 mph zone. Deputy McPeek stopped Mr. Woodby on State Route 7 near Ingram Road in Newport Township.

On 12 Oct 13 Sgt. Anderson requested summonses for Justin T. Britton, age 31, 14813 State Route 267, Marietta, and his live-in girlfriend, Samantha Burns, age 32, for disorderly conduct by fighting. Mr. Britton accused his girlfriend of punching him in the face and causing a small cut above his left eye. On the other hand, Ms. Burns alleged her boyfriend attempted to grab her purse and shoved her to the floor.

Sixteen Year Old Injured from Explosion of Muzzleloader Rifle

On 10/12/13 at approximately 7:37 pm the Sheriff’s Office received a call from Benjamin A. Miller, age 33, 31229 Liberty Ridge Road, Wingett Run, concerning an individual who had a muzzle-loader rifle blow up in his face while deer hunting. Miller advised he had observed Dominick Ryan Oliver, age 16, 7765 Dalzell Road, Lower Salem, walking on Liberty Ridge Road near Miller’s home. Miller transported Oliver to Oliver’s home on Dalzell Road. Oliver was then transported by his mother and brother to the intersection of Dalzell and Stanleyville Road where he was transferred to the Salem VFD Squad and transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital. Oliver was then air lifted to Grant Memorial Hospital in Columbus.

Oliver received serious injuries to his right eye and hand. The exact location of the explosion has not been determined however it appears it occurred while Oliver was inside a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 dark green pickup truck which has been located. The Sheriff’s Office is assisting Officers from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in this investigation which is still pending. Oliver is in stable condition at Grant Memorial Hospital.

The following individuals were processed into the Washington County Jail:

Nathaniel Ross Stevens, age 25, 397 Roberts Drive, Belpre, for domestic violence and for violating the terms of his probation, both misdemeanors. Ross was arrested on Front Street by Patrolman Sury of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 12 Oct 13 at 4:12 am.

Ronald Dean Welch Jr., age 43, 114 Franklin Street, Marietta, for domestic violence and for violating the terms of his probation, both misdemeanors. Welch was arrested at his residence by Patrolman Chapman of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 12 Oct 13 at 3:02 pm.

Johnny Edward Winland III, age 31, 243 Muskingum Drive, Marietta, for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Winland was arrested at his residence by Patrolman Harlow of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 12 Oct 13 at 10:27 pm.
