On 12 Aug 13 Tammy Taylor, age 44, 209 Fifth Street Ext., Lowell, reported after she was awakened by a popping noise she discovered her home was filled with smoke. Ms. Taylor and her niece escaped from the home and were transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital for treatment to smoke inhalation. The Lowell Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, which appears to have originated in an electrical outlet near a computer. The fire caused moderate damage to the home (594).

On 12 Aug 13 Deputy Sheriff Hunter requested summonses for John S. Bush, age 38, 60 Dye Street, Newport; Shay M. Scott, age 37, 130 Greene Street, Newport; and Cassandra Withrow, age 20, 35 Maple Street Apt. 2, Newport, for disorderly conduct. For the third time in two days Deputies responded to disputes involving Mr. Bush and his tenant, Ms. Withrow. Ms. Withrow and Ms. Scott confronted Mr. Bush at his residence and accused him of being a poor landlord and of not fixing broken items. In return, Mr. Bush called the women derogatory names and threatened to evict Ms. Withrow for being late on her rent payment.

On 12 Aug 13 Daniel Adams, age 63, 8615 State Rote 821, Lower Salem, reported he has power of attorney for an eighty-nine year old Lower Salem resident and he was recently informed by the victim's accountant that fifty-two of her checks were forged and cashed for a total of $33,600. Questioned by Deputy Sheriff Reeder, the suspect admitted stealing the checks between 25 Jun and 20 Jul and cashing them at various locations. The suspect stated he has a gambling problem and claimed that unknown subjects in Columbus threatened to kill him if he did not pay his gambling debts. The suspect and his mother said they would make restitution to the victim for the stolen funds within the next several days. This case remains under investigation (509).

On 12 Aug 13 Charles Warner, age 59, 260 Greenbrier Circle, Marietta, reported he was away for a camping trip between 2 Aug and 10 Aug and during that timeframe an unknown suspect(s) stole a Dewalt reciprocating saw, a Dewalt skill saw and a Stanley socket from a storage building on his property. This case remains under investigation (509).

On 12 Aug 13 a caller reported at 9 pm he was checking the Washington Hall Church for vandalism at 1293 Rinard Mills Road, New Matamoras, when he observed a full size Ford pickup truck over an embankment behind the church. The truck was abandoned with the keys in the ignition and with the interior light on. The caller said he believes he knows who the vehicle's owner is and stated the vehicle owner is known for allegedly drinking and driving. This case remains under investigation (1010).

On 12 Aug 13 Charles Barrett, age 66, 450 Cramer Drive, Marietta, reported he was away from his residence for a short period of time and when he returned he could not locate his wife. Deputy Sheriff Underwood patrolled the area in search of Mrs. Barrett but he was unable to find her. A relative subsequently phoned Mr. Barrett from his residence in Pennsylvania and stated that Mrs. Barrett was at his home.

On 12 Aug 13 Deputy Sheriff Underwood issued a citation to Danielle N. Oliver, age 23, 184 Third Street, Lowell, for driving under a suspended license. Deputy Underwood stopped Ms. Oliver near the intersection of Gilman Avenue and Westview Avenue in Marietta.

The following individuals were processed into the Washington County Jail:

Jeremy John Nicholas, age 34, 705 Montgomery Street, Marietta, for aggravated trespassing, menacing, disorderly conduct by fighting and violating the terms of his probation, all misdemeanors. Nicholas was arrested on Harmar Street by Patrolman Thomas of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 12 Aug 13 at 12:18 am.

Phillip Scott McClay, age 50, 10830 State Route 550, Barlow, for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor. McClay was arrested at the office of Probation Officer E. Brockmeier and processed into the Washington County Jail on 12 Aug 13 at 8:51 am.

Sarah Ann Modesitt, age 24, 306 Sycamore Street, Middleport, OH, for possession of drugs, a felony. Modesitt was arrested by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed into the Washington County Jail on 12 Aug 13 at 2:00 pm.

Derek Eugene Petry, age 33, 260 Mechanic Street, Macksburg, for trafficking in drugs, a felony. Petry was picked up at the Noble County Jail by Lt. Stackpole of the Washington County Sheriff's Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 12 Aug 13 at 4:35 pm.

John Stephen Bush, age 38, 60 Dye Street, Newport, for nonsupport of dependents, a misdemeanor. Bush was arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Hunter and processed into the Washington County Jail on 12 Aug 13 at 4:51 pm.

Ronald Wayne Gilbert, age 48, 920 Quarry Street, Marietta, for domestic violence and for violating the terms of his parole, both felonies. Gilbert was arrested at his residence by Patrolman Harlow of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 12 Aug 13 at 8:40 pm.

Dustin Wade Slagle, age 20, Marietta, for breaking and entering, theft, vandalism, tampering with evidence, three counts of safecracking and three counts of possession of criminal tools, all felonies. Slagle turned himself in to Patrolman Ellenwood at the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 12 Aug 13 at 10:00 pm.
