Archive of 06-07-13

On 7 Jun 13 Donald C. Rauch, age 73, 2071 Rauch Road, Fleming, reported sometime overnight an unknown suspect(s) stole two hog feeders from his property. It appears the suspect(s) attempted to steal a third hog feeder but it fell off a truck as it left the scene. The feeder was recovered a short distance away. This case remains under investigation (912).

TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED AND LINKED TO NUMEROUS HOUSE BURGLARIES

During the past several weeks law enforcement agencies in the Mid-Ohio Valley have been conducting an investigation into multiple house burglaries. The modus operandi of the suspects was to stop at a house which appeared to be unoccupied and knock on the door. If someone answered they would ask to purchase rabbits or other items. If no one answered they would break a window with a rock or other item and gain entry. Items primarily taken were money, guns and jewelry.

On June 6, 2013 at 1600 Officers from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Belpre Police Department arrested Calvin Wade Riggs, age 28 and Misty Dawn Bennett-Riggs, age 24 for being Fugitives from Justice from the State of Florida, where they are both wanted for Burglary. Both suspects admitted to committing numerous house burglaries in the Mid-Ohio Valley utilizing the above mentioned modus operandi. The suspects are cooperating with Investigators in locating the items taken. To date, items have been recovered in Washington, Athens, Meigs, Jackson, Wood, and Mason counties. Anyone with missing items that has not previously been contacted by Investigators is asked to call their local law enforcement agency and file a report. The investigation is continuing and numerous additional charges are expected to be filed.

The following individuals were processed into the Washington County Jail:

Misty Dawn Bennett-Riggs, age 25, 2605 A County Road 159, Coolville, for two felony counts of being a fugitive from justice. Riggs was arrested in Little Hocking by Lt. Rhodes of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 7 Jun 13 at 2:40 am.

Calvin Wade Riggs, age 28, 2605 A County Road 159, Coolville, for two felony counts of being a fugitive from justice. Riggs was arrested in Little Hocking by Lt. Rhodes of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 7 Jun 13 at 2:41 am.

Brett James Kline, age 28, 805 Elizabeth Street, Williamstown, for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor. Kline was arrested at the office of Probation Officer P. Brockmeier and processed into the Washington County Jail on 7 Jun 13 at 11:04 am.
