On 8 Apr 13 an employee at the Washington County Motel, 87 Tower Road, Little Hocking, reported a tenant was refusing to vacate his room. Arrested the previous day at the hotel for disorderly conduct by intoxication, Lonnie M. Starcher, age 45, was ordered to vacate the room by hotel staff. After Mr. Starcher refused to open the door, Deputy Sheriff Huffer entered the room with a key and convinced Mr. Starcher to pack his belongings. While doing so, Mr. Starcher poured a bottle of maple syrup onto the floor and tore a piece of paneling from a wall. Mr. Starcher began to resist the efforts of Deputy Huffer and Lt. Gherke when he was informed he was not allowed to pack his belongings in one of the hotel’s blankets. Subdued by a taser and handcuffed, Mr. Starcher continued to struggle. As a result of the incident, Deputy Huffer arrested Mr. Starcher for criminal mischief and resisting arrest and transported him to the Washington County Jail.

On 8 Apr 13 Sgt. Reeder investigated a report of a vehicle that struck an object near 30420 State Route 7 in Newport Township. In the vicinity Sgt. Reeder observed two damaged mailboxes, a severely damaged guardrail and numerous broken vehicle parts. A short distance away Sgt. Reeder located the suspect vehicle still traveling northbound, with a heavily damaged front end and a shredded front tire. The driver of the vehicle, Linda Gessner, age 53, 1405 Wilson Street, Saint Marys, admitted being involved in an accident she claimed was caused by swerving to avoid a deer. Slurring her speech and unsteady on her feet, Ms. Gessner performed poorly on a series of field sobriety tests. Based on his observations, Sgt.
