On 29 Jan 13 Deputy Sheriff Huffer requested summonses for two seventeen year residents to appear in Juvenile Court on charges of delinquency by theft. While a clerk at Newport Mini-Mart, 38175 State Route 7, Newport, was tending to another customer on 20 Jan, the teenagers removed two packs of cigarettes from behind the checkout counter. Viewing security footage, Deputy Huffer observed the juveniles stealing two energy drinks and two cigarette lighters.

FELONY HEROIN ARRESTS

Six suspects were arrested on a variety of charges following the execution of a search warrant at 1110 Moody Ridge Road, Vincent, this morning. The arrested suspects and their respective charges and bonds are:

  • Michael V. Richards, age 35, 1110 Moody Ridge Road, Vincent, for possession of heroin in an amount over 5 grams (F3), $15,000 bond;
  • Eric B. Siders, age 24, 6070 Sandhill Road, Marietta, for possession of heroin (F5), $5,000 bond;
  • Chelsie M. Cochran, age 19, 121 Warner Street, Marietta, for possession of heroin (F5), $2,500 bond;
  • Shawn J. Sims, age 22, 550011 Hudson Road, Reedsville, OH, for tampering with evidence (F3), $5,000 bond;
  • Ali R. Martin, age 23, 101 Stonecrest Drive, Marietta, for possession of drug abuse instruments (M2), $1,500 bond;
  • Heather D. Thompson, age 24, 116 Harmar Street, Marietta, for disorderly conduct - cease and desist (M4), $500 bond.

Upon entry into the residence Major Crimes Task Force Agents saw Richards seated at a table with Siders and Cochran and observed a syringe loaded with a brown substance believed to be heroin and spoon with a brown substance in it, also believed to be heroin. On the floor near where Richards was seated Agents discovered three packages of heroin weighing a total of 5.04 grams. Questioned about the heroin, Richards said both Cochran and Siders were preparing to use the heroin on the table and stated that he just traveled to Columbus to obtain a supply of heroin and that the three bags of heroin near the table were his.

During the process of securing individuals Shawn Sims was placed into handcuffs and placed on the floor and advised to sit still. Agents thereafter observed Sims attempting to conceal a syringe between two plastic barrels. Sims admitted that the syringe fell out of his pants and that he attempted to hide it.

Also during the warrant Heather Thompson was present and was secured into handcuffs. Thompson was highly intoxicated and kept yelling at the investigating officers. Despite being ordered several times to quiet down, Thompson refused to do so.

During the search warrant Ali Martin arrived at the residence. A search of her vehicle yielded a syringe, syringe caps and a cotton, which is commonly used in the injection of heroin.

All of the suspects remain incarcerated in lieu of bond. Richards is believed to be one of the county’s largest dealers of heroin. Also seized from the residence were a television that was believed to have been stolen during a recent burglary and a pickup truck and ATV that Agents believe were given to Richards to pay off a drug debt.
