On 20 Dec 12 Deputy Sheriff McLeish responded to an altercation at 210 Maple Street, Newport. Initially an argument between two men over repayment of a $20 loan, the incident escalated when the girlfriends of the men intervened. A brief battle between the home’s resident, Brenda Cramer, age 49, and Courtney Lamp, age 25, 849 Greene Street, Marietta, followed, with Ms. Cramer striking Ms. Lamp in the back of the neck with a plastic candy cane ornament. Ms. Lamp retaliated by grabbing her own candy cane and striking Ms. Cramer in the mouth. Ms. Cramer then retreated to the residence and Ms. Lamp to her vehicle. As a result of the incident, Sgt. McLeish requested summonses for Ms. Cramer and Ms. Lamp for assault.
