On 6 Aug 12 Margaret A. Biddle, age 76, 163 Old River Road, Little Hocking, reported she departed her home to work at her church at 8 am that morning and when she returned at 1 pm she discovered one of her basement windows was broken. Upon entering the home Ms. Biddle noticed it appeared that an unknown suspect(s) rummaged through two rooms of the house. Ms. Biddle said various articles of jewelry, including watches, rings and necklaces were stolen. Ms. Biddle estimates the jewelry is worth in excess of $3,000. This case remains under investigation (1007).

On 6 Aug 12 Deputy Sheriff Carr arrested Carl D. Hofmann, age 34, 11480 Waterford Road, Waterford, for OVI, driving under an OVI suspended license and being in possession of an open container of alcohol. While traveling southbound on Waterford Road near milepost thirteen, Deputy Carr observed a significant amount of sparks flying out from under Mr. Hofmann’s vehicle. Mr. Hofmann exited his vehicle after parking in his driveway and immediately commented that he should not be driving and placed his hands behind his back. Mr. Hofmann admitted consuming eight beers that evening and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Inside Mr. Hofmann’s vehicle Deputy Carr observed an open container of beer on the floorboard of the driver side of the vehicle. At the Washington County Jail Mr. Hofmann refused to submit to a BAC test. The sparks observed under Mr. Hofmann’s vehicle were apparently caused when his vehicle clipped the rear end of a trailer that was being repositioned by its owner at 13650 Waterford Road. Citing the damage to her trailer as minor, the owner declined to pursue any action against Mr. Hofmann.
