On 9 Jul 12 Deputy Sheriff Simmons responded
to an altercation involving a thirty-seven year old Whipple
resident and his seventeen year old son. The teenager was shouting
and yelling profanities when his father grabbed him by the shoulders.
When he released his son the father said it appeared the teenager
was making a fist so he backhanded his son to get his attention.
Witnesses confirmed the father’s account and stated there
was no malicious intent. As a result, Deputy Simmons closed
this case as unfounded.
On 9 Jul 12 Deputy Sheriff Schubert requested
a summons for Frederick G. McKitrick, age 30, 765 Warrior Drive,
Vincent, for failing to confine/restrain a dog. Neighbors of
Mr. McKitrick reported three dogs belonging to him were running
loose in the neighborhood and that a boxer puppy was struck
by a vehicle and killed. Deputy Schubert previously advised
Mr. McKitrick to restrain his pets after issuing a citation
to him for the same offense in late May.
On 9 Jul 12 Nicola Rogers, age 53, 55 Chainey
Run Road, Marietta, reported a family member entered her deceased
brother’s property at 16750 State Route 550, Marietta,
despite the fact that he was informed he was not permitted to
enter the property until the estate was settled. No items appear
to be missing from the property. This case remains under investigation
On 9 Jul 12 the Warren Fire Department transported
John Clark, age 40, 1685 Wynncrest Drive, Marietta, to Marietta
Memorial Hospital for treatment to injuries suffered in an ATV
accident. When Mr. Clark accelerated the ATV as he climbed a
hill, the vehicle rolled backwards and caused the handlebars
to strike Mr. Clark in the left side of his face. Mr. Clark
was later transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for
treatment to an eye injury. Mr. Clark’s eleven year old
niece was riding on the back of the ATV and suffered minor injuries.
She was transported by her family to the hospital as a precaution

OF MARIJUANA SEIZED
Ninety-seven marijuana plants in various stages
of growth and over six pounds of marijuana were seized early
yesterday evening following the execution of a search warrant
at 1495 Clark Road, Cutler. An investigation conducted by Agents
of the Major Crimes Task Force indicated the owner of the property,
James M. Mayle Jr., age 52, 3933 Three Rivers Lane, Groveport,
OH, was operating an indoor marijuana grow facility. Mr. Mayle
was previously convicted in federal court of distribution of
marijuana and cocaine and served a prison term of five years.
Inside the home Agents located an elaborate grow operation in
an upstairs room that included duct work, grow lights, grow
beds, water pumps and numerous plant growth chemicals. Agents
also noticed a downstairs room that appeared to be used as a
drying room for harvested marijuana. The ninety-seven marijuana
plants were found outside the home along a well used trail and
were in containers similar to those in the upstairs grow room.
At the conclusion of the search warrant Mr.
Mayle was arrested on a second degree felony charge of illegal
cultivation of marijuana in the vicinity of a juvenile, a second
degree felony charge of assembly of assembly of items to cultivate
marijuana and a fifth degree felony charge of possession of
criminal tools. He remains incarcerated in the Washington County
Jail without bond pending his initial court appearance this

Christie Dawn Mallett, age 36, 4812 Grand Central
Avenue, Vienna, for violating the terms of her probation, a
misdemeanor. Mallett was arrested at the office of Probation
Officer Brockmeier and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 9 Jul 12 at 12:54 pm.
Ivan Lynn Patterson Jr., age 21, 104 Riley
Drive Apt. 1, Marietta, for felony charges of failure to comply
with the order/signal of an officer and possession of drugs
and misdemeanor charges of endangering children, driving under
an FRA suspended license, speeding and driving outside the marked
lanes of travel. Patterson was arrested in Devola by the Ohio
State Highway Patrol and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 9 Jul 12 at 3:30 pm.
Herbert Leroy Nunn II, age 37, 234 Pam Road,
New Matamoras, for theft, a misdemeanor. Nunn was arrested on
Zanesville Street by Patrolman Oliver of the Beverly Police
Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on
9 Jul 12 at 11:38 pm.
Matthew Gene Schafer, age 33, 101 Eldridge
Street, Marietta, for two misdemeanor counts of theft. Schafer
was arrested on Zanesville Street by Patrolman Oliver of the
Beverly Police Department and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 9 Jul 12 at 11:55 pm.
