On 3 Jul 12 Lhan A. Weppler, age 53, 1820 Masonic Park Road, Marietta, reported two chainsaws, four five gallon gas cans and his wallet were stolen from his truck while he left it unattended at 863 Blue Knob Road, Marietta, that afternoon. Shortly after taking this report Deputy Sheriffs Caltrider and Holbert responded to a private property crash involving a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle at 26115 State Route 7, Marietta. The owner of the vehicle, John L. Clark, age 40, 1685 Wynncrest Drive, Marietta, was at that location with his young nephew when the toddler accidentally placed the vehicle in gear. Coasting onto a foot bridge, the vehicle’s front passenger side tire slipped off the bridge deck and caused the vehicle’s frame to rest on the deck. During their investigation the Deputies discovered a syringe in Mr. Clark’s pocket and a syringe, a spoon and a number of prescription pills. Also in the vehicle the Deputies found Mr. Weppler’s wallet as well as a chainsaw and five gallon can of gasoline. The Deputies observed aluminum rims and various engine parts that were subsequently identified as being stolen from Hilltop Auto Wrecking. As a result of the incident, Deputy Holbert arrested Mr. Clark for felony and misdemeanor charges of possession of drugs and transported him to the Washington County Jail. Deputy Caltrider will be submitting a brief in support of a charge on Mr. Clark of receiving stolen property for possible presentation to a grand jury.

On 3 Jul 12 Deputy Sheriff Reeder and the Grandview and Newport fire departments responded to a fire at the residence of Shawn M. Weaver, age 32, 923 Old Beavertown Road, New Matamoras. Hearing a smoke detector while he was showering, Mr. Weaver observed smoke in his kitchen in the vicinity of where he placed a lighted oil lamp and a lighted candle. It appears the fire was caused by a leak in the oil lamp. The fire was contained to the kitchen but the living room may have sustained water damage.
