On 8 Mar 12 Georgie Hupp, age 46, 108 Seneca Drive, Marietta, reported her six year old grandson attempted to intervene during an argument she was having with her husband Steven, age 41. After the argument ended Mrs. Hupp said she heard her grandson screaming and saw her husband choking him with both hands around the child’s neck. Mrs. Hupp said she then attempted to physically pry her husband’s hands off her grandson’s neck. The child was not seriously injured. As a result of the incident, Sgt. Hornbeck arrested Mr. Hupp for child endangering and transported him to the Washington County Jail.

On 8 Mar 12 Corrections Officer Sheaves filed a charge of assault on Washington County Jail inmate Richard J. Speciale, age 50, 4527 Peoples Road, Pittsburgh, PA. For reasons unknown, Mr. Speciale attacked inmate Glenn Young Jr., age 47, 49860 State Route 1624, Racine, OH. During the attack on 5 Mar, Mr. Speciale struck Mr. Young numerous times in the head and shoved him against a wall several times.

On 8 Mar 12 Deputy Sheriff Lockhart and the Warren Fire Department were dispatched to a fire at 1915 Wynncrest Drive, Marietta. Carl Brown, age 85, and his son were burning trash near a shed and temporarily left then fire unattended. A short time later Mr. Brown heard a popping noise and noticed the shed was on fire. The shed and its contents are a total loss.

On 8 Mar 12 Deputy Sheriffs Lockhart and McPeek and the Barlow and Wesley fire departments responded to a fire at 635 Giffin Road, Cutler. The fire, at a vacant mobile home owned by William Giffin, age 80, 733 Giffin Road, appears to have originated in a bedroom breaker box. The trailer was a total loss.

On 8 Mar 12 an employee at the Broughton Complex on State Route 821 reported sometime between 5 Mar and 8 Mar an unknown suspect(s) stole nine windows from a portion of the complex that is being constructed. The value of the stolen windows is approximately $1,900. This case remains under investigation (208).

On 8 Mar 12 Linda Griffith, age 65, 1593 Lois Street, Belpre, reported between fifteen and twenty hydrocodone pills were stolen from her lunchbox while she worked her shift at Heartland that evening. This case remains under investigation (1104).

On 8 Mar 12 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks requested a summons for a seventeen year old Cutler resident to appear in Juvenile Court on a charge of delinquency by underage consumption of alcohol. While attending an FFA hog roast at the Washington County Career Center, the juvenile was found asleep in the back of a vehicle at 12:45 am among seven empty cans of Busch Light and an empty bottle of King Cobra malt liquor. The teenager provided a breath sample, which registered at .055 BAC.

The following individuals were processed into the Washington County Jail:

Justin Edward Wolfe, age 18, 210 ½ Montgomery Street, Marietta, for underage consumption of alcohol, a misdemeanor. Wolfe was arrested in Marietta by Patrolman Nedeff of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 8 Mar 12 at 2:28 am.

Dustin Tyler Marcum, age 19, 27335 State Route 7, Marietta, for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor. Marcum was arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Caltrider and processed into the Washington County Jail on 8 Mar 12 at 8:11 am.

Steven Thomas Hupp, age 41, 108 Seneca Drive, Marietta, for child endangering, a felony. Hupp was arrested at his residence by Sgt. Hornbeck of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 8 Mar 12 at 2:55 pm.
