On 16 Nov 11 the Newport Fire Department transported Barbara Thorniley, age 58, 31185 State Route 7, Marietta, to Marietta Memorial Hospital after she was struck by a vehicle at her home. Ms. Thorniley was standing behind a vehicle being operated by her mother when her mother’s foot slipped from the brake and onto the gas pedal. After she was knocked to the ground the vehicle’s tire ran over Ms. Thorniley’s legs and came to a stop. Ms. Thorniley did not appear seriously injured and was admitted to the hospital for observation (208).

On 16 Nov 11 a forty-three year old Fleming resident reported during a confrontation her sixteen year old son damaged a phone and threatened to destroy other items in the house. The teenager’s mother said she recently caught her son looking at pornography and playing games on his home school computer and was attempting to have parental controls placed on his computer, which enraged her son. The juvenile grabbed the phone from his mother, broke it and then would not allow her to leave the room. The mother eventually left without incident to phone for assistance. She declined to pursue charges in the matter (507).

On 16 Nov 11 Deputy Sheriff Schubert requested summonses for Jessica Surrena, age 24, 450 Rummer Road, Marietta, and Brent Reynolds, age 26, 1220 Watertown Road, Waterford, for cruelty to animals. A witness reported observing a lab-mix dog chained on Ms. Surrena’s property that appeared severely malnourished and underweight. With Ms. Surrena’s consent, Deputy Schubert searched her home and found two pit bull-mix puppies that were later determined to have health problems as a result of their detrimental living conditions. For several days Ms. Surrena was reportedly caring for the puppies at the request of Mr. Reynolds. A veterinarian concluded the puppies’ conditions did not the result of their care of the past several days and were previously neglected. All three dogs were confiscated and are receiving veterinary care.
