On 3 Oct 11 Randall D. Gainer, age 42, 290 Congress Road, Belpre, reported he briefly left his Dewalt reciprocating saw unattended behind his home that afternoon and at some point during that time the saw was stolen. This case remains under investigation (610).

GENERAL MANAGER, PARTS MANAGER OF HOMETOWN HONDA ARRESTED

After receiving a report from the owner of Hometown Honda, Detectives began an investigation into the possible embezzlement of funds and theft of motorcycle parts and accessories. The owner said he recently received information that the parts manager, Zachary P. Michael, age 31, 2545 Pleasant Ridge Road, Marietta, stole several Harley Davidson parts, including a new fender, from the business. Mr. Michael then allegedly gave the items to his father in law, who posted the items for sale on eBay.

Detective Parks located the alleged stolen parts on eBay and noticed the online seller had over 1,000 motorcycle parts and accessories posted for sale. Utilizing marked currency, Detective Parks arranged to purchase saddlebags and a new fender from the seller, who resides next door to Mr. Michael. An employee at Hometown Honda subsequently identified the parts as those that came from the business. Thereafter, Mr. Michael was found in possession of currency with serial numbers matching the bills used to purchase the stolen parts.

As a result of the investigation, Detective Parks arrested Mr. Michael on a fifth degree felony charge of theft. The business’ general manager, Rick A. Mattos, age 42, 215 Sturbridge Drive, Franklin, TN, was arrested for obstructing official business. When questioned, Mr. Mattos made false statements to Detectives. The full extent of the thefts and embezzlement will not be clear until a full audit of the business is conducted. Additional evidence will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for grand jury consideration. At this time it is not known if Mr. Michael’s in-laws were aware the items they listed for sale were stolen
