On 10 Sep 11 a passerby reported observing a female striking a male in the parking lot of the Marietta Township Community Center on Sandhill Road. Questioned by Deputy Sheriff Simmons, the alleged victim, Patrick Messick, age 42, 104 Sierra Drive, Marietta, said he pulled into the parking lot because his truck was smoking. Mr. Messick stated his wife arrived shortly thereafter and was upset for various reasons and struck him several times. Mr. Messick’s wife corroborated her husband’s story and commented she only wanted to get his attention and did not intend to injure her husband. At no time during the incident did Mr. Messick say he feared for his safety. As a result, Deputy Simmons closed this case as unfounded.

On 10 Sep 11 Lt. Hornbeck and the Watertown Fire Department were dispatched to a barn fire on the property of Joseph R. Arnold, age 70, 538 Camp Hervida Road, Waterford. The barn contained 186 round bales of hay, which led to the Watertown fire chief’ decision to allow the fire to burn itself out. The fire damaged hay spear stored inside the barns and Chevy pickup truck that Mr. Arnold had parked nearby. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental.
