On 24 May 11 Donald Marcum, age 42, 27335 State Route 7, Marietta, reported he believes a family member may have obtained the keys to unlock his vehicle. Mr. Marcum said he locked his vehicle on 20 May and when he entered the vehicle on 23 May his portable CD player and GPS unit were missing. This case remains under investigation (208).

On 24 May 11 an employee of Columbus Navigation reported at some point since 18 May an unknown suspect(s) cut the lock off the entry gate to gain access to a microwave tower near the intersection of Highland Ridge Road and State Route 530 in Lower Salem. Once inside the gate the suspect(s) stole approximately 300 feet of grounding wire and removed the lightning rod. This case remains under investigation (1104).

On 24 May 11 Carl Wazlavek, age 82, 390 Echo Valley Road, Waterford, reported his neighbor, Harold J. Copen, age 60, 318 Echo Valley Road, entered his property without permission in search of a missing dog. Mr. Wazlavek’s property is posted as no trespassing and Mr. Copen ignored repeated requests to leave the property. Growing increasingly belligerent, Mr. Copen cursed, made derogatory comments and continuously challenged Mr. Wazlavek and two other individuals to fight him. Contacted at his residence, Mr. Copen ordered Deputy Sheriff Lockhart off his property and maintained his confrontational behavior. Mr. Copen refused a number of Deputy Lockhart’s requests to cease and desist and continued his tirade. As a result of Mr. Copen’s actions, Deputy Lockhart arrested him for criminal trespassing and two counts of disorderly conduct and transported him to the Washington County Jail.

On 24 May 11 Robert P. Tate, age 60, 2266 Briggs Hill Road, Belpre, reported a large quantity of scrap metal was stolen from his property the previous afternoon. A friend of Mr. Tate identified Tina Sims, age 47, 11870 Veto Road, Marietta, as a suspect and Deputy Sheriff Smeeks interviewed her at her residence. Ms. Sims said she was having a hard time and had no money admitted taking two loads of scrap from Mr. Tate’s property. Receipts provided by Ms. Sims show she sold a total of 860 pounds of metal for $94.60. Consequently, Deputy Smeeks requested a summons for Ms. Sims for theft.

On 24 May 11 Sgt. Hornbeck issued citation to Hayley N. Henthorn, age 20, 815 Bethel Road, Marietta, for traveling 71 mph in a 60 mph zone. Sgt. Hornbeck stopped Ms. Henthorn on US 50 near Federal Road in Belpre Township.

On 24 May 11 Sgt. Hornbeck issued citation to William E. Van Pelt II, age 40, 1588 Gene Street, Belpre, for traveling 67 mph in a 55 mph zone. Sgt. Hornbeck stopped Mr. Van Pelt on State Route 7 near Gravel Bank Road in Warren Township.

On 24 May 11 Deputy Sheriff Mankins conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Bobby L. Hayes III, age 30, 2608 Avery Street, Parkersburg, for traveling left of center when turning from US 50 onto Gantsville Road. As Mr. Hayes exited the vehicle Deputy Mankins noticed a black pipe that was later identified as a pair of nun chucks. A further search of the vehicle yielded a syringe and a spoon that contained heroin residue. The vehicle’s owner, Robert S. Southall, age 33, 2608 Avery Street Apt. 23, was the front seat passenger and stated the weapon belonged to him. Questioned about the drug paraphernalia, Mr. Hayes admitted the contraband was his. Deputy Mankins subsequently determined Mr. Hayes did not possess a valid driver’s license. As a result of the traffic stop, Deputy Mankins arrested Mr. Hayes for possession of drugs, driving under a suspended license and for driving left of center. Mr. was arrested as well, charged with carrying a concealed weapon and allowing an unlicensed driver to operate his vehicle.

On 24 May 11 Deputy Sheriff Mankins issued a citation to Clay D. Knox, age 27, 207 Mill Alley, Malta, for traveling 72 mph in a 50 mph zone. Deputy Mankins stopped Mr. Knox on US 50 near Braun Road in Belpre Township.

On 24 May 11 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks issued a citation to Christina A. Lang, age 40, 315 Main Street, Waterford, for traveling 71 mph in a 55 mph zone. Deputy Smeeks stopped Ms. Lang on State Route 7 near Joe Skinner Road in Belpre Township.

The following individuals were processed into the Washington County Jail:

Aaron Robert Fulton, age 25, 214 Wooster Street Apt. B, Marietta, for driving under an OVI suspended license, reckless operation, hit-skip, possession of drugs, criminal damaging and obstructing official business, all misdemeanors. Fulton was arrested on Acme Street by Patrolman Nedeff of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 May 11 at 1:09 am.

Kelly Jean Hendershot, age 35, 204 Jennison Street, Beverly, for OVI, not wearing a seat belt, for driving outside the marked lanes of travel and for being in possession of an open container of alcohol, all misdemeanors. Hendershot was arrested on Arends Ridge Road by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 May 11 at 2:58 pm.

Robert Scott Southall, age 33, 2608 Avery Street Apt. 23, Parkersburg, for carrying a concealed weapon and for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate his vehicle, both misdemeanors. Southall was arrested on Gantsville Road by Deputy Sheriff Mankins and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 May 11 at 9:30 pm.

Harold Junior Copen, age 60, 318 Echo Valley Road, Waterford, for criminal trespassing and for two counts of disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors. Copen was arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Lockhart and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 May 11 at 9:49 pm.

Bobbie Lee Hayes III, age 30, 2608 Avery Street, Parkersburg, for a felony charge of possession of drugs and for misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle without a license and driving left of center. Hayes was arrested on Gantsville Road by Deputy Sheriff Mankins and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 May 11 at 10:41 pm.

Emilee Ann Schwendeman, age 18, 427 Fourth Street, Marietta, for two misdemeanor counts of domestic violence. Schwendeman was arrested at her residence by Patrolman McClelland of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 May 11 at 11:00 pm.
