On 20 May 11 Deputy Sheriff Lockhart was dispatched to 316 Salster Road, Fleming, to assist the Ohio State Highway Patrol with an investigation of a traffic crash. At the scene, the individual involved in the crash, Darren R. Layne, age 30, 205 Sixth Avenue, Parkersburg, said he crashed his car somewhere on Blue Knob Road. Mr. Layne heavily slurred his speech as he spoke and stated he drank three or four shots of whiskey while he waited for the Highway Patrol to arrive. Also under the influence of Xanax, Mr. Layne was unable to provide a phone number of a friend to stay with for the remainder of the morning. Consequently, Deputy Lockhart arrested Mr. Layne for disorderly conduct by intoxication and transported him to the Washington County Jail. At the jail Mr. Layne tested .232 BAC.

On 20 May Eric C. Anderson, age 43, 900 Tresch Road, Fleming, reported he hid $5,000 in a refrigerator in his locked, detached garage on 15 May and when he checked for the money on 17 May at 7 pm it was missing. This case remains under investigation (608).

On 20 May 11 Deputy Sheriff Anderson and the Devola, Fearing and Salem fire departments were dispatched to a fire at Heartland at 5001 State Route 60, Marietta. Extinguished by a sprinkler system prior to the arrival of the fire departments, the fire appears to have been caused by a leaking hot water heater. Water from the leak contacted the heater’s electrical system, causing it to spark and smoke. Damage to the area around the water heater was minimal.

On 20 May 11 the director of Emeritus, 150 Browns Road, Marietta, reported finding a discrepancy in the facility’s controlled medication log. This case remains under investigation (790).

The following individuals were processed into the Washington County Jail:

Darren Robert Layne, age 30, 205 Sixth Avenue, Parkersburg, for disorderly conduct by intoxication, a misdemeanor. Layne was arrested in Fleming by Deputy Sheriff Lockhart and processed into the Washington County Jail on 20 May 11 at 4:40 am.
