On 5 Mar 11 a witness in the parking lot of Sponey’s IGA at 411 Fifth Street, Beverly, reported the driver of a pickup truck was driving erratically and twice struck a parked vehicle when he attempted to enter a parking stall. After the driver nearly struck another vehicle a bystander was able to signal the driver to stop. Identifying the driver as William M. McCauley, age 87, 116 Woodrow Street, Marietta, Deputy Sheriff Schubert did not observe him to be under the influence of alcohol. However, Deputy Schubert noticed Mr. McCauley’s motor skills were sluggish and he was somewhat confused. Deputy Schubert revoked Mr. McCauley’s license and arranged for a friend of Mr. McCauley to provide him a ride home. The vehicle Mr. McCauley struck is a Pontiac sedan driven to the scene by Terry L. Smith, age 43, 2210 Camp Hervida Road, Waterford. The vehicle sustained light, functional damage.

On 5 Mar 11 Paul G. Thompson, age 40, 15 Mercer Road, Stockport, reported sometime overnight an unknown suspect(s) stole a 2010 Polaris Razr from a storage building on his property. This case remains under investigation (1104).

The following individual was processed into the Washington County Jail:

James Michael Polcyn, age 35, 710 Front Street, Marietta, for telephone harassment, a misdemeanor. Polcyn was arrested on Gilman Street by Patrolman Newell of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 5 Mar 11 at 11:02 pm.
