REPEAT OFFENDER ARRESTED FOR FELONY MARIJUANA POSSESSION

Following the execution of a search warrant at 3261 School House Road, Little Hocking, Task Force Agents yesterday arrested William L. Mitchell, age 44, on third degree felony charges of possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence. The search warrant resulted in the seizure of more than four pounds of marijuana, over $13,000 in cash and an ATV. While Agents were executing the warrant an individual arrived at the residence with $600 that he said was to pay Mitchell for a drug debt. The individual, who was released and may face criminal charges at a later date, also stated he intended to purchase more marijuana from Mitchell. Mitchell was charged with tampering with evidence due to the fact that he attempted to hide a duffle bag that contained three duct taped bags of marijuana and one gallon size bag of marijuana.

Nearly fifteen years ago Mitchell was sentenced to a term in federal prison on charges related to trafficking in large quantities of marijuana. During a joint investigation involving the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, Detectives seized $251,000, several vehicles and a boat from Mitchell. Under questioning, Mitchell stated the seized money, the vehicles and boat were all proceeds of his drug trafficking enterprise. At the time Mitchell also admitted he was on probation in North Carolina on a charge of conspiracy to distribute fifty pounds of marijuana. In addition to being ordered to serve the remainder of his sentence on the North Carolina conspiracy charge, Mitchell pled guilty in federal court to one count of money laundering and was sentenced to federal prison.

Mitchell remains incarcerated in the Washington County Jail without bond and is scheduled to make his initial court appearance at 1 pm.
