On 12 Jan 11 Susan Smith, age 37, reported she was dropping her teenage son off at her estranged husband’s home at 1779 Masonic Park Road, Marietta, when a minor dispute occurred. Interviewing witnesses, Sgt. Thorpe concluded the incident was only verbal and no act of domestic violence took place.

On 12 Jan 11 Judy Tidd, age 50, 20349 State Route 821, Dexter City, reported three days earlier her husband Earl, age 50, threatened her with a rifle. Arguing over an alleged affair involving her husband, Mrs. Tidd said her husband threw her onto a bed, retrieved a rifle and threatened to shoot her and then himself. Mr. Tidd acknowledged grabbing a gun from his gun cabinet but claimed he replaced the weapon after he thought more of what he was doing. During the argument Mr. Tidd also stated his wife was yelling at him so he grabbed her by the arms and sat her on a bed. Based on his investigation, Deputy Sheriff Caltrider arrested Mr. Tidd for domestic violence and transported him to the Washington County Jail.

SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ABDUCTION

At 9:30 am on 12 Jan 11, Denise D. Keel, age 42, 1666 School House Road, Little Hocking, arrived at the Sheriff’s Office to report physical abuse at the hands of her husband William H. Keel, age 48. Mrs. Keel stated her husband was highly intoxicated when he came home around 1 am and the two were involved in a verbal confrontation over her husband’s alleged infidelity. As he grew more enraged, Mr. Keel attempted to smother his wife by pinning a pillow against her face with his forearm. Mr. Keel released his wife before she lost consciousness and then retrieved a knife from the kitchen. After she refused her husband’s request to stab him with the knife, Mrs. Keel said her husband fell asleep.

Waking a short time later, Keel reinitiated a confrontation and slammed his wife’s head against the bed’s headboard. Mr. Keel continued his aggressive actions and eventually forced his wife into a bedroom closet and demanded she stay inside it. Mrs. Keel escaped a short time later after her husband fell asleep. Hours later, Mr. Keel phoned his wife while she was at work and threatened to kill her if she contacted law enforcement. Mrs. Keel stated she was in fear for her safety and requested a temporary protection order.

Deputy Sheriff Holbert later arrested Mr. Keel for a third degree felony charge of abduction and a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence and transported him to the Washington County Jail. Mr. Keel remains incarcerated with a $20,000 bond. His hearing is set for January 19th at 3:30 pm.
