On 7 Dec 10 Deputy Sheriff Travaglio responded to the scene of death of a forty-nine year old Newport resident. The man’s death appears to be due to natural causes; no foul play is suspected.

On 7 Dec 10 Jeff D. Worstell, age 26, 27155 State Route 7, Marietta, reported when he returned home that morning after spending the evening at his father’s house he discovered his Dodge truck was missing. Additionally, Mr. Worstell said the front door to his home was ajar and $40 and five keys were missing from inside the residence. Located in a parking lot at 20825 State Route 550, Mr. Worstell’s truck appeared to have been involved in a crash. Finding inconsistencies in Mr. Worstell’s statement, Deputy Sheriff Travaglio is attempting to determine if the vehicle was actually stolen. This case remains under investigation.

On 7 Dec 10 James C. Spriggs III, age 30, 501 Walnut Street, Belpre, reported the relative of an old friend of his stole a .40 handgun from his vehicle while it was parked at the Lawnsdale on 15 Nov. Mr. Spriggs learned the alleged suspect was thereafter arrested and in possession of the firearm in North Carolina. In order to release the weapon, Mr. Spriggs said law enforcement in North Carolina informed him the gun must be reported stolen by its owner. Mr. Spriggs declined to pursue charges in the matter, stating he only wanted his handgun returned.
