On 11 Nov 10 Deputy Sheriff Carr responded
to the scene of death of a seventy year old Marietta resident.
The woman’s death appears to be due to natural causes;
no foul play is suspected.
On 11 Nov 10 Jesse Smith, age 18, 417 Unionville
Road, McConnelsville, reported her estranged husband Jerry,
age 23, lured her to his residence at 324 Second Street, Macksburg,
under the guise that she would be picking up their daughter.
Seeing the child was not there, Ms. Smith attempted leave but
Mr. Smith pushed her onto a couch. After she stood, Ms. Smith
said her husband slapped her and threw her to the floor. While
she yelled for her father, who was waiting outside, Ms. Smith
stated Mr. Smith began choking her. Mr. Smith released his grip
when he noticed his father in law and allowed his wife to leave
his home. Questioned about the incident, Mr. Smith admitted
tricking his wife into coming to his home so he could talk about
their marriage. Mr. Smith acknowledged shoving his wife but
claimed he only did so after she began kicking and hitting him.
Based on his investigation, Deputy Sheriff Carr arrested Mr.
Smith for domestic violence and for violating the terms of a
protection order and transported him to the Washington County
On 11 Nov 10 Robert Gibson, age 40, 614 Elm
Street, Belpre, reported he was about to depart his lot along
the creek on School House Road in Little Hocking when he noticed
two juveniles meddling with the property of other individuals
who rent lots at the location. Before they fled the juveniles
threw a swing and a grill in the creek. This case remains under
On 11 Nov 10 a witness reported seeing two
unknown males carrying a street sign near the intersection of
Tick Ridge Road and Layman Road in Vincent. When the witness
shined a light on the suspects, they dropped the sign that was
stolen from the intersection of Second and High streets in Vincent.
Deputy Sheriff Mankins recovered the sign along with a Cincinnati
Reds hat located nearby. This case remains under investigation.

Jerry Dawayne Smith, age 23, 324 Second Street,
Macksburg, for domestic violence and for violating the terms
of a protection order, both misdemeanors. Smith was arrested
at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Carr and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 11 Nov 10 at 2:45 pm.
