On 31 Oct 10 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks requested a summons for a fourteen year old Belpre resident to appear in Juvenile Court for being unruly. Traveling in the backseat of a vehicle with her parents, the teenager began screaming and cussing at her mother because she did not want to go home. When the teenager’s mother turned around in the passenger seat to administer discipline the juvenile grabbed and struck her several times. Shortly thereafter, the teenager’s father pulled the vehicle into a parking lot, at which point the juvenile exited the vehicle and refused to return home with her parents.

On 31 Oct 10 Deputy Sheriff Reeder began an investigation into an altercation involving several juveniles at Newport Elementary School. A total of four juveniles between the ages of twelve and fourteen were involved in the incident, which resulted in an eleven year old being transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital to be treated for a cut on his head. Deputy Reeder received conflicting statements from the juveniles and is attempting to ascertain what charges are appropriate to file on the juveniles involved.

On 31 Oct 10 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks and the Little Hocking Fire Department responded to a fire at the home of EG Carney, age 40, at 955 Turkey Hollow Road, Cutler. Mr. Carney and his wife were not present at the time of the fire, which fully engulfed the home. Due to the fact that there were no witnesses at the fire, the State Fire Marshal will be contacted to conduct an investigation. The home was a total loss.
