On 11 Jul 10 Robert L. Lohr, age 19, 817 Grandview Avenue, New Matamoras, reported he departed his locked residence at 1 am and when he drove past his home approximately four hours later he noticed lights were on inside. When he looked inside the home, Mr. Lohr said several rooms were ransacked and furniture was upended. Interviewing the other residents of the home, Deputy Sheriffs Reeder and Travaglio determined a DVD player, a Playstation, a .38 handgun, five gold and diamond necklaces and five gold rings were missing. This case remains under investigation.

On 11 Jul 10 Barbara Slider, age 53, 625 Tower Road, Little Hocking, reported she has not stayed at her home for the past month because the residence is in the foreclosure process and at some point during that timeframe a number of items were stolen from the home. Ms. Slider stated the stolen items include a riding mower, a curio cabinet and its contents, a heater, two speakers, a push mower and a toolbox full of tools. This case remains under investigation (707).

On 11 Jul 10 Darla J. Schafer, age 40, 15753 Waterford Road, Waterford, reported she left her home at 12:45 pm and when she returned she discovered an obscenity scrawled on her garage door with gasoline. In addition to the garage door, Ms. Schafer saw that numerous flowers were uprooted and light fixtures outside the home were broken. Ms. Schafer stated she suspected her ex-boyfriend, Scott Hampshire, age 30, 854 Greene Street Apt. 2, Marietta, caused the damage due to the fact that he specifically threatened to cause the damage done when the two broke up two weeks ago. Questioned by Deputy Sheriff Holbert, Mr. Hampshire admitted causing the damage because he was not happy about the ending of his relationship with Ms. Schafer. Consequently, Deputy Holbert requested a summons for Mr. Hampshire for criminal mischief.

On 11 Jul 10 Deputy Sheriff Lockhart requested warrants for Donald E. Bartimus, age 30, 2642 Sealy Ridge Road, Vincent, and Katherine L. Buchanan, age 29, 2228 Sealy Ridge Road, Vincent, for theft and for breaking and entering. On 26 Jun 10 the owner of a property on Kennedy Road in Cutler reported when he arrived at the property Mr. Bartimus and Ms. Buchanan were in the attic and garage and fled immediately when they noticed him. When he examined the house, the victim said nearly all of the electrical wiring was missing. Identified by the license plate of their vehicle, Mr. Bartimus and Ms. Buchanan were also identified by the victim in a photo lineup.

On 11 Jul 10 Deputy Sheriff Holbert responded to a disturbance at 507 Masonic Park Road, Marietta. When he arrived, Deputy Holbert observed John E. Burgy, age 28, PO Box 502, Parkersburg, and Mr. Burgy’s estranged wife, Valerie Ann Stewart, age 27, 906 Lynn Street, Parkersburg, involved in a verbal altercation. As Deputy Holbert separated the two, Ms. Stewart continued to yell at Mr. Burgy until Deputy Holbert placed her in his cruiser. Detailing the incident, Mr. Burgy said Ms. Stewart came to his friend’s home uninvited and initiated a confrontation over the whereabouts of their son. At one point during the fracas Mr. Burgy said Ms. Stewart struck him in the right side of his face. Ms. Stewart was unable to provide a plausible explanation for her role during the incident and claimed Mr. Burgy choked her even though she had no signs of physical abuse. Based on his investigation, Deputy Holbert arrested Ms. Stewart for domestic violence and transported her to the Washington County Jail.
