On 15 Jun 10 Sgt. Hornbeck conducted traffic stop on Phillips Street near Greene Street after the driver of an oncoming vehicle failed to dim its headlights. When the vehicle stopped two unidentified males fled, leaving the driver, Derek S. Barnhart, age 19, 624 Ruby Street, Belmont, WV, and a seventeen year Saint Marys resident with the vehicle. Sgt. Hornbeck noticed a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle and observed a still lit marijuana joint burning a hole in the vehicle’s backseat. Mr. Barnhart and the juvenile both admitted the four passengers smoked the joint in the vehicle and passed it to one another as Mr. Barnhart drove. Unable to provide the last name of the subjects who fled, both Mr. Barnhart and the juvenile stated those two subjects provided the marijuana. As a result of the traffic stop, Sgt. Hornbeck issued a minor misdemeanor citation to Mr. Barnhart for possession of marijuana. The juvenile will also be summonsed to Juvenile Court on a charge of delinquency by possessing marijuana.

On 15 Jun 10 Christy Smith-Collins, age 27, 401 Third Street, Macksburg, reported she was at a residence on Main Street in Macksburg when overheard her ex-husband outside on his mobile phone. Mrs. Collins reportedly heard her ex-husband making a comment about killing her. Declining to pursue charges in the matter, Mrs. Collins stated that even though she is remarried she has still has feelings for her ex-husband and he also still lives in her residence. At Mrs. Collins’ request, Deputy Sheriff Carr advised her of the procedure to evict her ex-husband from the residence.

On 15 Jun 10 United Ambulance transported Christy L. Collins, age 27, 340 Harriett Street, Macksburg, to Marietta Memorial Hospital for treatment to injuries suffered in an ATV crash. Riding down a muddy hill in a strip mining area near Long Run Road in Aurelius Township, Mrs. Collins lost control of the ATV and it rolled on top of her. Mrs. Collins complained of pain to her back and possible suffered a broken leg but the injuries do not appear to be life threatening (1104).

On 15 Jun 10 Karenetta N. Hoover, age 47, 112 Hanson Driver, Marietta, reported she allowed two acquaintances to do their laundry in her home that morning and she believes one of the two individuals stole her prescription bottles containing sixty Valium pills and seventy Percocet pills. This case remains under investigation (1184).

On 15 Jun 10 a bus driver for Wolf Creek Local Schools started the ignition of a bus parked at Waterford High School and exited the vehicle while its system built air pressure. Shortly thereafter the bus coasted backwards and struck the rear bumper of a parked Mazda 3 owned by Rachel D. Miller, 199 Starcher Road, Waterford. Ms. Miller’s vehicle sustained light damage. The bus was undamaged (592).

SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR TRAFFICKING IN OXYCONTIN

Following the controlled purchase of six eighty milligram OxyContin pills, Task Force Agents arrested Brian Lucas, age 44, at 122 Tennis Center Drive Apt. 23, Marietta. Upon conclusion of the controlled drug buy a search warrant was executed at the residence and Agents recovered the $450 used in the transaction. A recent transplant from Florida, Mr. Lucas stated he came to Ohio because he can get more money in this area for the pills he sells. Mr. Lucas also said he sells his prescriptions to make money and does not have any other source of income. OxyContin is an opiate-based Schedule II narcotic used in the treatment of chronic pain and when used properly can relieve pain for up to twelve hours. Like other opioids and opiates such as morphine and heroin, OxyContin can be dangerously addictive and is often abused.

Lucas remains incarcerated in the Washington County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bond.

The following individuals were processed into the Washington County Jail:

Sheldon Dwight Hill, age 27, 9150 State Route 550, Vincent, for assault and for failure to appear, both misdemeanors. Hill was arrested in Common Pleas Court by Deputy Sheriff Spencer and processed into the Washington County Jail on 15 Jun 10 at 10:58 am.

James F. O’Brien II, age 32, 3995 Pleasant Ridge Road, Marietta, for making false alarms, a misdemeanor. O’Brien was arrested in Marietta Municipal Court by Patrolman Linscott of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 15 Jun 10 at 11:19 am.

Brian Eugene Lucas, age 44, Marietta, for trafficking in drugs, a felony. Lucas was arrested on Pike Street in Marietta by Major Warden of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 15 Jun 10 at 4:23 pm.
