SHOOTING INVESTIGATION LEADS TO FELONY DRUG ARREST

Investigating a report of gunshots fired into a parked vehicle at 1154 Patten Mills Road, Cutler, the morning of 2 Jun, Sgt. Thorpe and Deputy Sheriff Smeeks responded to interview the alleged suspect, Brandon Kennedy, age 22, at Kennedy’s residence at 668 Hill Road, Cutler. Kennedy was identified as a suspect after the owner of the damaged vehicle, Tony Hill, age 21, commented that he is feuding with Mr. Kennedy over the fact that Kennedy is dating Mr. Hill’s former girlfriend. Mr. Kennedy’s SUV was also seen in the vicinity of Hill’s residence at the time the four or five gunshots were fired.

At Kennedy’s residence the Deputies could detect an odor of marijuana emanating from the front door. As Deputy Smeeks walked to secure the rear of the residence he discovered fifteen marijuana plants ranging from ten inches to thirty inches in height. Securing the residence while awaiting a search warrant, the Deputies escorted Kennedy, his girlfriend and two other individuals from the residence. Along with Agents of the Major Crimes Task Force, the Deputies conducted an in depth search of the residence and located a bag of marijuana and a vial of white powder that tested positive for cocaine.

Based on statements obtained from witnesses, Deputy Smeeks arrested Mr. Kennedy for a fourth degree felony charge of possession of cocaine and a fifth degree felony charge of illegally cultivating marijuana. Kennedy is incarcerated without bond pending his initial appearance in Marietta Municipal Court. The incident involving the gunshots fired into Mr. Hill’s vehicle remains under investigation.
