At a hunting cabin at 239 Long Run Road, Marietta, to acclimate his hunting dogs to the sound of gunshots, Mr. Petro said he placed a .38 caliber handgun atop a wooden railing after loading it. On 27 Mar 10 Sgt. Underwood and Deputy Sheriff Anderson responded to a domestic violence call at 330 Warren Chapel Road, Marietta. When they arrived, Deputy Anderson noticed Robert Ryan, age 38, was consuming beer and detected a strong odor of alcohol about Mr. Ryan. Mr. Ryan was defiant and angry about the Deputies presence on his property so Deputy Anderson handcuffed him for his safety. Mr. Ryan’s family members informed the Deputies that Mr. Ryan was heavily intoxicated, began calling his wife names and was giving her a hard time. Fed up with his father’s antics, Mr. Ryan’s seventeen year old son began to defend his mother. As another family stood between Mr. Ryan and his son in an attempt to avoid a confrontation, R. Ryan reached around the family member and slapped his son in the face. Based on the statements of witnesses, Deputy Anderson arrested Mr. Ryan for domestic violence and transported him to the Washington County Jail.
