On 6 Mar 10 the treasurer for Stonegate Construction,
1378 Way Road, Belpre, reported ten $250 checks the company
was to receive for redeeming credit card points were stolen
sometime late last year. Examining the two checks that were
cashed, Deputy Sheriff Smeeks identified a suspect and arranged
for an interview. The suspect denied stealing the checks but
stated an acquaintance brought them to her after taking them
from a mailbox. The suspect said her acquaintance, whom she
refused to identify, forged signatures on the drafts and they
proceeded to two different locations to cash the checks and
purchase items. When he identifies the additional suspect and
conducts follow up interviews Deputy Smeeks will forward a
grand jury brief to the Prosecutor’s Office for presentation
to a future grand jury.
