On 1 Mar 10 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks issued a minor misdemeanor citation to Jacob W. Willis, age 27, 9008 State Route 555, Cutler, for possession of marijuana. Conducting a pat down for weapons on the occupants of the vehicle after his canine indicated the presence of drugs, Deputy Smeeks discovered a foreign object in Mr. Willis’ pants pocket. At that point Mr. Willis produced a bag containing 5.5 grams of marijuana. The traffic stop occurred on State Route 124 in Little Hocking.

On 1 Mar 10 Deputies responded to the scene of death of a fifty-six year old New Matamoras resident. Evidence at the scene indicates the woman died as a result of suicide. No foul play is suspected (292, 500, 594, 1090).

On 1 Mar 10 a clerk at Marathon, 15 Arrowhead Road, Little Hocking, reported two males were sitting in a vehicle at the business and she feared they may have been surveilling the business for a future robbery attempt. Deputy Sheriff Caltrider located the suspects and relayed the request of the clerk that they vacate the premises. The driver stated he would leave but shortly thereafter Deputy Caltrider observed him entering the store. The suspect, who stated his name was Donald Bailey, refused to provide any form of identification when asked and also refused to answer if he had been drinking. Outside the store, the suspect resisted as Deputy Caltrider attempted to handcuff him and had to be forced into compliance. Deputy Caltrider later determined the suspect’s actual identity was Eric Wenzel, age 45, of 7355 Veto Road, Belpre, and learned that Mr. Wenzel used the alias Donald Bailey in the past. As a result of the incident, Deputy Caltrider arrested Mr. Wenzel for disorderly conduct by intoxication, resisting arrest and obstructing official business and transported him to the Washington County Jail. The other subject in the vehicle was released without charge.
