On 22 Sep 09 the Newport Fire Department responded
to a structure fire at 40522 State Route 7, Newport. Removing
items from the garage as help arrived, the garage’s owner,
Donald J. Clift, age 54, said he was filling his tractor with
gasoline when the fuel spilled. The fuel then ran under a hot
water heater and caught fire. The garage and the remaining
items in it were deemed a total loss (1184).
On 22 Sep 09 Casee Hoover, age 28, 3860 State
Route 676, Stockport, reported being involved in a domestic
dispute with her live-in boyfriend John A. Carpenter, age 29.
Arguing over the state of their relationship, Mr. Carpenter
shoved Ms. Hoover, causing her to fall over a chair and their
one year old child. The child was not injured but Ms. Hoover
did suffer bruising to her arms as a result of the incident.
When questioned, Mr. Carpenter admitted pushing Ms. Hoover
and said he knew what he did was wrong. Consequently, Deputy
Sheriff Carr arrested Mr. Carpenter for domestic violence and
transported him to the Washington County Jail.
On 22 Sep 09 Deputy Sheriff Anderson arrested
Randy L. Sayres, age 52, 101 Groves Avenue, Marietta, for .08
breath OVI. Stopped for driving at night without headlights
at the intersection of State Route 550 and Virginia Street,
Mr. Sayres had a strong odor of alcohol. Despite his claim
that he only consumed one beer, Mr. Sayres performed poorly
on horizontal gaze nystagmus tests. When transported to the
Washington County Jail Mr. Sayres tested .116 BAC.
On 22 Sep 09 Deputy Sheriff Mankins requested
a summons for Roger L. Slack Sr., age 63, 840 Pike Street Apt.
25, Marietta, for telephone harassment. Reportedly upset that
a relative of his friend did not say hello to him earlier in
the day, Mr. Slack phoned his friend and left a threatening
message on her voicemail. In his message Mr. Slack exclaimed
that he had the weapons to blow up Macksburg and that he could
bring a gang into town to take care of everything. The victim
said she was not afraid of Mr. Slack’s threats but is
annoyed that he phones her repeatedly after being asked not
to do so.

Bryan D. Babcock, age 42, 470 Cornerville
Road, Reno, for failing to appear to serve ninety days in jail
on 12 Sep 09.
Anthony D. Cottrill, age 32, 20340 State Route 60, Beverly,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines in the sum of $557.29.
Carl W. Davis, age 22, 6396 State Route 78, McConnelsville,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines in the sum of $540.40.
Shane A. Faddis, age 22, 407 Four Mile Court, Coolville, for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines
in the sum of $305.50.
Scott J. Freeman, age 28, 45307 Cross Street, Caldwell, for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines
in the sum of $604.60.
Tony R. Graham, age 46, 24689 State Route 26, New Matamoras,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines in the sum of $321.10.
John M. Heldman, age 31, 311 1`/2 Walnut Street, Lowell, for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines
in the sum of $955.20.
Jesse D. Patterson, age 23, 104 Brandy Drive, Marietta, for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines
in the sum of $549.90.
Geanita A. Smith, age 38, 3915 State Route 676, Stockport,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines in the sum of $209.30.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Amber Leigh James, age 19, 565 Forest Hills
Road, Parkersburg, for violating the terms of her probation,
a misdemeanor. James was arrested at the office of Probation
Officer Hamilton and processed into the Washington County Jail
on 22 Sep 09 at 9:35 am.
John Aman Carpenter, age 29, 3860 State Route 676, Stockport,
for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Carpenter was arrested
at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Anderson and processed into
the Washington County Jail on 22 Sep 09 at 11:40 am.
Timothy Jack Kennedy, age 22, 1209 Moore Street, Akron, for
possession of criminal tools, a felony. Kennedy was picked
up at the Summit County Jail by Deputy Sheriff Malone and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 22 Sep 09 at 1:40 pm.
David Lee Guiler II, age 30, 16501 State Route 821, Macksburg,
for endangering children, reckless operation, driving under
a suspended license and for not using a child restraint, all
misdemeanors. Guiler was arrested near milepost sixteen on
Interstate 77 by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 22 Sep 09 at 1:50 pm.
Randy Lee Sayres, age 52, 101 Groves Avenue, Marietta, for
OVI, a misdemeanor. Sayres was arrested on Gilman Avenue by
Deputy Sheriff Anderson and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 22 Sep 09 at 9:50 pm.
