On 20 Sep 09 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks conducted
a traffic stop after noticing an inoperable license plate light
on a vehicle driven by Daniel A. Wickham, age 26, 35700 State
Route 260, Graysville. While Dispatch checked the records of
Mr. Wickham and his passenger Phillip W. Wells, age 28, 329
Franklin Street, Marietta, Deputy Smeeks conducted an exterior
sniff of the vehicle with his canine. Searching the vehicle
following a canine indication for the presence of drugs, Deputies
Smeeks and Holbert discovered an open bottle of Crown Royal
and a vial containing four Vicodin pills. When questioned,
Mr. Wickham stated the Canadian whiskey and Vicodin belonged
to him. During the stop Deputy Smeeks patted down Mr. Wells
for weapons, at which point a marijuana pipe fell out of his
pants leg. Asked about contraband possibly hidden in his shoes,
Mr. Wells removed his shoes and Deputy Smeeks discovered a
bag of psilocybin mushrooms that Mr. Wells said were a birthday
gift to him. Deputy Smeeks seized all of the contraband and
issued Mr. Wells a minor misdemeanor citation for possession
of marijuana. For possessing the other items Mr. Wickham was
arrested for possession of drugs and for being in possession
of an open container of alcohol. Also charged with operating
a vehicle with an expired license, Mr. Wickham was transported
to the Washington County Jail.
