On 20 Aug 09 residents on Santee Road, Buell
Circle, Holiday Drive and Sandhill Road reported their unlocked
vehicles were entered during the night. Nothing of substantial
value was missing, only a pack of cigarettes and a total of
$13 in loose change. This case remains under investigation
(1184).
On 20 Aug 09 Deputy Sheriff Simmons responded
to the scene of death of a sixty-five year old Marietta resident.
The woman’s death appears to be due to natural causes;
no foul play is suspected.
On 20 Aug 09 Deputy Sheriffs Anderson and
Mankins responded to the scene of a domestic dispute at 21283
State Route 676, Marietta. The victim, Brysen Lee, age 22,
stated his stepfather, Edward Trotter, age 58, was intoxicated,
repeatedly degraded him, harassed him for being lazy and subsequently
assaulted him. Reportedly striking Mr. Lee with a milk jug,
Mr. Trotter grabbed his stepson by the neck and attempted to
force feed him with a fork. Mr. Lee said his stepfather grabbed
him again by the neck but that he was able to free himself.
Mr. Trotter admitted he was involved in a minor incident but
minimized his role when confronted about his stepson’s
allegations. Based on his investigation Deputy Anderson arrested
Mr. Trotter for domestic violence and transported him to the
Washington County Jail.
WEAPON FIRED DURING BRAWL
Around 10 pm last night Sgt. Underwood and
Deputy Sheriff Anderson responded to an altercation involving
a firearm at 517 Front Street, New Matamoras. The resident
at the address, identified as John J. Peterson Jr., age 42,
said the confrontation occurred after his nine and twelve year
old daughters informed him a neighbor’s loose dog was
growling and barking at him. Mr. Peterson said he was on his
property, carrying a nine shot, .22 caliber revolver when the
dog’s owner, William J. Hesson, age 47, 106 Main Street,
New Matamoras, crossed onto his property and instigated an
argument. During the argument Mr. Hesson tackled Mr. Peterson
to the ground and the two exchanged several punches. Another
male subject attempted to grab Mr. Peterson and at some point
a struggle over the gun ensued and the weapon fired. A pellet
from the one bird shot rounds loaded in the weapon struck a
bystander by the name of Tracy Newlen in the abdomen and the
crowd quickly dispersed.
Peterson, Hesson and Newlen were all transported
to Marietta Memorial Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Upon being medically released, Peterson was arrested for felonious
assault and assault and Hesson was charged with aggravated
trespassing and assault. While Peterson is being held without
bond on the felonious assault charge, Hesson is being held
on $2,000 bond. Both are scheduled to appear in Municipal Court
1 pm this afternoon.

were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Ryan Mitchell Milligan, age 22, 330 Kloes Road, Waterford,
for failure to appear, a misdemeanor. Milligan was arrested
in Beverly by Patrolman Hunter of the Beverly Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 20 Aug 09
at 2:25 am.
John Jessie Peterson Jr., age 42, 517 Front Street, New Matamoras,
for felonious assault and for a misdemeanor charge of assault.
Peterson was arrested in New Matamoras by Deputy Sheriff Anderson
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 20 Aug 09
at 2:43 am.
Scott Eric Stiers, age 42, 257 Stiers Road, Waterford, for
OVI and for driving left of center, both misdemeanors. Stiers
was arrested in Beverly by Patrolman Hunter of the Beverly
Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 20 Aug 09 at 2:54 am.
William Joseph Hesson, age 47, 106 Main Street, New Matamoras,
for aggravated trespassing and assault, both misdemeanors.
Hesson was arrested in New Matamoras by Deputy Sheriff Anderson
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 20 Aug 09
at 3:21 am.
Nicole Marie Curtin, age 23, 17600 Kirkbride Hill Road, Pleasant
City, OH, for OVI, possession of drugs, possession of drug
paraphernalia, for driving outside the marked lanes of travel
and for not wearing a seat belt, all misdemeanors. Curtin was
arrested in Marietta by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 20 Aug 09 at 4:10 am.
Jason Stuart Mills, age 32, 1321 Lynn Street,
Parkersburg, for public indecency, a misdemeanor. Mills was
arrested at Marietta Memorial Hospital by Patrolman Wenzel
of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 20 Aug 09 at 10:40 am.
Timothy Paul Charlton, age 27, 1681 Sealy Ridge Road, Vincent,
for failure to appear, a misdemeanor. Charlton was picked up
at the North Central Regional Jail by Deputy Sheriff Underwood
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 20 Aug 09
at 2:15 pm.
Tommy Edward Young Sr., age 42, 425 Oil Field Road, Ovapa,
WV, for illegal processing of drug documents, a felony. Young
was picked up at the Central Regional Jail in Sutton, WV by
Deputy Sheriff Underwood and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 20 Aug 09 at 2:15 pm.
Edward Arthur Trotter, age 58, 21283 State Route 676, Marietta,
for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Trotter was arrested
at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Anderson and processed into
the Washington County Jail on 20 Aug 09 at 11:05 pm.
