On 18 Aug 09 Melody A. Keene, age 55, 16785 County Nine Road, New Matamoras, reported two days ago her housemate Melissa J. Flesher, age 34, took her vehicle without permission and had not yet returned it. Investigating a tip on the vehicle’s location, Lt. Gherke and Deputy Sheriff Holbert observed the 1993 Buick Regal outside a residence on Barber Street in Marietta. Found inside a residence, Ms. Flesher admitted taking the vehicle and said she planned on returning it but stated someone stole the keys earlier that day. Therefore, Ms. Flesher said, she had a friend hotwire the car so it could be driven. Ms. Flesher further elaborated that she consumed alcohol throughout the evening and was currently not in a condition to drive the vehicle. As a result of their investigation, Deputy Holbert requested a summons for Ms. Flesher for the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and for criminal mischief.

On 18 Aug 09 Sgt. Norman and Deputy Sheriffs Sheaves and Travaglio investigated multiple reports of unlocked vehicles being entered in the vicinity 855 and 1025 Browns Road in Marietta. Two of the entered vehicles were parked inside an unlocked garage while the other three vehicles were parked outside. Several electronics devices in the vehicles were left untouched, with the thieves only stealing an estimated total of $2 in loose change.
