On 17 Mar 09 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks issued a citation to Brian A. Barman, age 24, 1539 Remelle Road, Monroeville, OH, for traveling 92 mph in a 65 mph zone. Deputy Smeeks stopped Mr. Barman near milepost twelve on Interstate 77 in Salem Township.

On 17 Mar 09 Deputy Sheriff Simmons requested a summons for Janet M. Gibbs, age 38, 1825 Greene Street, Marietta, for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Investigating a domestic dispute on 13 Mar 09 in which Ms. Gibbs was a victim, Deputy Sheriff Simmons learned from Ms. Gibbs’ live-in boyfriend that she was in possession of a marijuana pipe and a bag of marijuana. Questioned regarding the seized contraband, Ms. Gibbs admitted she formerly smoked marijuana to calm her nerves but was now on medication and no longer needed the items.

DRUG TRAFFICKING ARREST, NEW WARRANTS ISSUED

On 17 Mar 09 Steven R. Hand III, age 20, 1710 Drag Strip Road, Belpre, was arrested on a felony charge of cocaine as part of an arrest roundup conducted by the Major Crimes Task Force. In the vicinity of Clement Avenue, Belpre in April of 2008 Hand sold a confidential informant what was supposed to be one gram of cocaine that was later determined to have a mass of .6 grams. Following his initial court appearance on 17 Mar, Hand posted $2,500 bond and was released from custody.

Of the five suspects (Martin, Tucker, Taylor, Donley, Hand) recently arrested for trafficking in drugs, only Warren S. Tucker, age 27, remains incarcerated. He is being held on a probation violation at the request of his Probation Officer.

In addition to the previously affected arrests, three warrants have been issued for the arrest of Brian Patterson, age 26, 1820 Bungalow Avenue, Huntington, WV, for trafficking in cocaine. On three occasions during an eight day span in early December 2008, Patterson sold a confidential informant 6.6 grams, 6.7 grams and 13.3 grams of cocaine. One ounce equals 28.35 grams

The following individuals were processed into the Washington County Jail:

Steven Robert Hand III, age 20, 1710 Drag Strip Road, Belpre, for trafficking in drugs, a felony. Hand was arrested at the intersection of Main Street and Washington Boulevard in Belpre by Lt. Stackpole of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 17 Mar 09 at 9:46 am.

Michael Jay Babcock, age 32, 470 Cornerville Road, Reno, for failure to appear, a felony. Babcock was arrested in Marietta by Deputy Sheriff Malone and processed into the Washington County Jail on 17 Mar 09 at 9:50 am.

Elizabeth Langsdorf, age 47, 1695 State Route 260, New Matamoras, for disorderly conduct by intoxication, for three counts of possession of drugs, for four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and for two counts of illegally distributing drugs, all misdemeanors. Langsdorf was arrested at the Marietta Center by Patrolman Blasko of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 17 Mar 09 at 10:38 am.

Richard Arnaz Carter Jr., age 19, 26935 State Route 7 Apt. 2C, Marietta, for trafficking in drugs, a felony. Carter was picked up at the Southeast Correctional Institution by Deputy Sheriff Reeder and processed into the Washington County Jail on 17 Mar 09 at 12:00 pm.

Ashley Nicole McCray, age 20, 8463 Harris Highway, Belleville, WV, for violating the terms of her probation, a misdemeanor. McCray was arrested at the office of Probation Officer Ferrell and processed into the Washington County Jail on 17 Mar 09 at 2:58 pm.

John Russell Hilton Jr., age 45, 3300 State Route 26, Marietta, for three felony counts of failure to appear. Hilton was arrested on State Route 26 by Deputy Sheriff Hornbeck and processed into the Washington County Jail on 17 Mar 09 at 3:31 pm.
