On 15 Mar 09 a fifty year old Belpre resident
was transported to Saint Joseph’s Hospital following
what appeared to be an overdose of alcohol and prescription
drugs. The man’s blood work was not deemed abnormal,
however he will undergo a psychological evaluation prior to
his release (790).
On 15 Mar 09 Traci R. Widener, age 42, 159
Second Lane, Belpre, reported a male and a female asked to
use her phone after their vehicle broke down and while the
two subjects were in her home she believes they stole her prescription
bottles of hydrocodone and Prevacid. This case remains under
investigation (707, 1104).
On 15 Mar 09 Deputy Sheriff Holbert issued
a citation to Michael D. Bateson, age 39, 790 State Route 555,
Corning, OH, for driving under an FRA suspended license. Deputy
Holbert stopped Mr. Bateson near milepost seven on State Route
555 in Decatur Township.
On 15 Mar 09 Deputy Sheriff Holbert arrested
Christopher C. Griffin, age 25, 852 Greene Street, Marietta,
for possession of drug paraphernalia and for possession of
marijuana. A canine indication for the presence of drugs prompted
a search of the vehicle in which Mr. Griffin was a passenger
and led to the discovery of a glass pipe in his front pocket.
When questioned, Mr. Griffin replied that the pipe was not
his and that a friend gave it to him to clean.
On 15 Nov 09 Deputy Sheriffs Norman and Smeeks
was dispatched to 1681 Sealy Ridge Road, Vincent, after receiving
a report that an intoxicated male was in possession of a weapon
and previously made statements about harming himself. Prior
to the arrival of the Deputies a witness at the scene obtained
and secured the weapon away from Timothy P. Charlton, age 27,
without incident. When questioned, Mr. Charlton said he drank
seven beers that evening and admitted firing the .22 rifle
at a nearby tree stump. As a result, Deputy Smeeks arrested
Mr. Charlton for handling a weapon while intoxicated and transported
him to the Washington County Jail.
CRACK COCAINE AND CLANDENSTINE LAB SEIZED
On March 15, 2009 area law enforcement officers and Agents
from the Major Crimes Task Force as a follow-up to the arrests
yesterday continued their war against the importation and manufacturing
of crack cocaine in the Mid-Ohio Valley by executing a search
warrant at 1125 ½ Greene Street, Marietta, OH. Upon
searching the residence Agents located a plastic bag containing
approximately 53 grams of recently manufactured crack cocaine,
digital scales, glass beakers, containers and other items utilized
in the production of this illicit drug. The 53 grams seized
is in addition to the 86 bags of crack cocaine, 116 Xanax pills,
19 Ecstasy pill and 6 grams of marijuana seized yesterday.
The 53 grams seized today has an approximate street value of
between $5,000 and $10,000.
Powder cocaine is being transported into this area and then
refined into the more powerful crack cocaine by several “cooking” processes
at various mobile transient locations. The cooking process
is fairly simply and widely known by drug abusers.
Justin Alexander Simpson, age 20, 6644 Stradford Lakes Road,
Canal Winchester, OH was arrested at the Four Seasons Bar,
133 Greene Street, Marietta, OH by the Marietta Police Department
and charged with FI Possession of 53 grams of crack cocaine
and F2 Manufacturing of Crack Cocaine, a Schedule II narcotic.
He is being held in the Washington County Jail without bond.
This investigation is continuing and additional arrests are
expected.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Brian Lynn Hendershot, age 24, 1206 Williamson Avenue, New
Matamoras, for OVI, a misdemeanor. Hendershot was arrested
on State Route 7 by Chief Bourne of the New Matamoras Police
Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on
15 Mar 09 at 12:25 am.
Christopher Corey Griffin, age 25, 852 Greene Street, Marietta,
for possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. Griffin
was arrested near Braun Road on US 50 by Deputy Sheriff Holbert
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 15 Mar 09
at 1:25 pm.
Timothy Paul Charlton, age 27, 1681 Sealy Ridge Road, Vincent,
for using a weapon while intoxicated and for failure to appear
at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines, both misdemeanors.
Charlton was arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Smeeks
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 15 Mar 09
at 10:20 pm.
