On 10 Mar 09 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks reversed
his direction of travel on State Route 7 after observing a
vehicle heading in the opposite direction was traveling 66
mph in a 60 mph zone. Seeing Deputy Smeeks circle behind him,
the driver of the vehicle, Michael S. Cranston, age 21, State
Route 681, Tuppers Plains, quickly turned onto Federal Road,
then onto State Route 124 and back onto State Route 7. Conducting
a traffic stop at that point Deputy Smeeks noticed Mr. Cranston
acting suspiciously. As Mr. Cranston stepped from his vehicle
for Deputy Smeeks to check his operator’s license, Deputy
Smeeks saw a bag of marijuana stuffed between the console and
passenger seat. A search of the vehicle following a canine
indication for the presence of drugs yielded a marijuana pipe,
a metal tin containing marijuana and a baggy of marijuana.
As a result, Deputy Smeeks arrested Mr. Cranston for possession
of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia and transported
him to the Washington County Jail.
On 10 Mar 09 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks issued
a citation to Stephen A. McBribe, age 22, 2406 S. 23rd Street,
Saginaw, MI, for operating a vehicle with license plates that
expired in September 2008. Deputy Smeeks stopped Mr. McBribe
near milepost four on Interstate 77 in Fearing Township.
the Sheriff’s
Office received the following warrants:
Glenna M. Blair, age 28, 687 Wynncrest Drive,
Marietta, for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing
on unpaid fines in the sum of $1,952.25.
Richard D. Gill, age 47, 1936 Mill Branch Road, Belpre, for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines
in the sum of $871.
William Harris, age 29, 1535 Braun Road, Belpre, for failure
to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines in the
sum of $1,763.06.
Russell O’Dell, age 42, 1208 Park Avenue, New Matamoras,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines in the sum of $253.50.
James D. Somerville, age 41, Dee Street Lot 9, Waverly, WV,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines in the sum of $761.40.
Charday M. Underdown, age 21, 1910 State Route 550, Bartlett,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines in the sum of $223.60
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Michael Scott Cranston, age 21, State Route
681, Tuppers Plains, for possession of drugs and possession
of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. Cranston was arrested
on State Route 7 near State Route 124 by Deputy Sheriff Smeeks
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 10 Mar 09
at 11:05 am.
Jessica Lynn Mantz, age 30, 319 Seventh Street, Marietta,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines, a misdemeanor. Mantz was arrested in Marietta Municipal
Court by Patrolman Warden of the Marietta City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 10 Mar 09
at 11:40 am.
Kenneth Allen Newbanks, age 30, 906 Lakeview Drive, Parkersburg,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines, a misdemeanor. Newbanks was arrested in Waterford by
Deputy Sheriff Anderson and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 10 Mar 09 at 2:50 pm.
William Robert Harris, age 29, 27250 State Route 7, Marietta,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines, a misdemeanor. Harris was arrested at his residence
by Deputy Sheriff Simmons and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 10 Mar 09 at 8:24 pm.
