On 7 Jan 09 Deputy Sheriff Richards issued
a minor misdemeanor citation to Joseph E. O’Brien, age
22, 889 Whealdon Road, Cutler, for disorderly conduct by fighting.
Upset that he believed his boyfriend was cheating on him, Mr.
O’Brien repeatedly threatened to fight his boyfriend
and yelled at him for approximately two hours. Deputy Richards
determined the incident was minor and no act of domestic violence
occurred (805, 905).
On 7 Jan 09 Winnie G. Branham, age 77, 762
Luke Chute Road, Waterford, reported she last remembers seeing
a crushed diamond ring in her purse on 11 Dec 08 and believes
it was stolen sometime after that date. This case remains under
investigation (608).
On 7 Jan 09 a seventeen year old Marietta
resident reported two females she knows from school came to
her home and one of the females punched her in the stomach
for no apparent reason. The following day Deputy Sheriff Simmons
learned the alleged victim fabricated the story about being
assaulted because she was angry at one of the females she accused
and wanted to get her in trouble. As a result, Deputy Simmons
requested a summons for the teenager to appear in Juvenile
Court on a charge of delinquency by falsification.
CONTROLLED BUY NETS 650 METHADONE PILLS
During a joint operation conducted by the Parkersburg Narcotics
Task Force (PNTF) and the Washington County Major Crimes Task
Force (MCTF), Agents seized 650 10 mg methadone pills during
an undercover operation. Arrested was Ola V. Nichols Jr., age
58, 361 Anderson Road, Davisville, WV. Utilizing a confidential
informant, Agents purchased the methadone from Nichols for
$4,120 in a transaction that took place on Farson Street in
Belpre. Shortly after the transaction marked units from the
Washington County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic
stop, arrested Nichols and recovered the $4,120 in his possession.
Subsequent to the arrest of Nichols, PNTF officers executed
a search warrant at Nichols’ residence and seized a number
of items, including six plastic bags of marijuana packaged
for sale. Agents will also seek the forfeiture of a 2001 Ford
Winstar driven by Nichols to facilitate the distribution. Nichols
remains incarcerated in the Washington County Jail in lieu
of $35,000 bond
Methadone, also known as Dolophine, is a narcotic pain reliever
for medium to severe pain. It is also used for the treatment
of opiate dependences such as Heroin, Vicodin, Percocet, and
Morphine. Methadone is being used to supply the habits of opiate
addicts in the Mid-Ohio Valley and has been linked to overdose
fatalities in the past several years. The ten milligram pills
recovered in this case are some of the most powerful methadone
pills prescribed.
FOLLOWUP YIELDS ADDITIONAL BURGLARY ARREST
Conducting further investigation following the 30 Dec 08 burglary
of the residence owned by Frank Chutes at 312 Simpson Street,
Marietta, Detectives today arrested Brian R. Morgan Sr., age
46, 319 Simpson Street, Marietta, for a second degree felony
charge of burglary. Interviews of Morgan’s housemate
and co-conspirator Kenneth Sparks, age 30, revealed two more
guns than were originally reported stolen from the home were
taken during the burglary by Mr. Morgan. Two nine millimeter
pistols matching the stolen guns’ description as well
as various collectible coins were recovered from the Morgan
residence on 2 Jan, at which time Mr. Morgan admitted having
knowledge that the items were stolen. A third party interviewed
in connection with the case said he drove Sparks and Morgan
to various locations to cash in the coins and that during the
trip Morgan and Sparks both said they entered the residence
and took a large coin collection. Sparks has been incarcerated
since 31 Dec 08 on $35,000 bond. Morgan also remains incarcerated
on a bond of $35,000 and is due to appear in court on 9 Jan
09.

Jacob Matthew Shaffer, age 21, 817 Masonic
Park Road, Marietta, for domestic violence, a misdemeanor.
Shaffer was arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff S.
Travaglio and processed into the Washington County Jail on
7 Jan 09 at 12:02 am.
Ola Valgene Nichols Jr., age 58, 361 Anderson
Road, Davisville, WV, for trafficking in drugs, a felony. Nichols
was arrested on US 50 by Deputy Sheriff Hornbeck and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 7 Jan 09 at 10:20 am.
Brian Russell Morgan Sr., age 46, 319 Simpson Street, Marietta,
for burglary, a felony. Morgan was arrested at his residence
by Detective Rhodes of the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 7 Jan
09 at 10:39 am.
Dennis Ray Oakley, age 28, 101 Franklin Street Apt. 2, Marietta,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines, a misdemeanor. Oakley was arrested in Marietta Municipal
Court by Patrolman Heddleston of the Marietta City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 7 Jan 09 at
3:44 pm.
Leroy Gerald Everett Best, age 26, 709 Wayne Street Apt. B,
Marietta, for failure to appear, a misdemeanor. Best was arrested
in Marietta Municipal Court by Patrolman Heddleston of the
Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 7 Jan 09 at 5:03 pm.
Charles Roger Conkle Jr., age 26, 1126 46th Street Apt. 7,
Vienna, for theft, a misdemeanor. Conkle was arrested at Wal-Mart
by Patrolman Ellenwood of the Marietta City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 7 Jan 09 at
6:52 pm.
Christopher Michael Estes, age 30, 109 Fifteenmile Creek Road,
Marietta, for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor.
Estes was arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Simmons
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 7 Jan 09 at
8:26 pm.
