On 5 Jan 09 Roger D. McCroskey, age 50, 2715
Mead Street, Belpre, reported he awoke at 2:34 am to a car
horn blowing and found his 2008 Chevy engulfed in flames. Mr.
McCroskey was unable to put out the fire himself but the Little
Hocking Fire Department extinguished the blaze shortly thereafter.
Due to the fire’s suspicious nature this case was forwarded
to the State Fire Marshall’s Office for further investigation
(712).
On 5 Jan 09 Detective Schuck issued a citation
to Stacy R. Robinson Jr., age 21, 4150 Sugar Run Road, Marietta,
for driving under an FRA suspended license. Detective Schuck
Mr. Robinson at the intersection of Pike and North Hart streets
in Pioneer Township.
On 5 Jan 09 Deputy Sheriff K. Travaglio issued
a citation to Timothy Thrasher, age 38, 115 Laurel Ridge Road,
Lowell, for not stopping at a stop sign. Deputy Travaglio stopped
Mr. Thrasher after he failed to stop sign at the intersection
of Greenlawn Lane and Lowell Loop Road in Adams Township.
On 5 Jan 09 Deputy Sheriff S. Travaglio conducted
a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Danielle M. Wourms, age
25, 3795 State Route 377 SW, Stockport, for having only one
functioning headlight. Visibly nervous and shaking, Ms. Wourms
confessed that she had a bag of marijuana and a marijuana pipe
in the vehicle. Ms. Wourms said she handed the items to her
passenger, Scott E. Collins, age 23, 2417 Grange Hall Road,
Dayton, for him to conceal during the traffic stop. In addition,
Wourms and Collins both stated they smoked marijuana in the
parking lot of Influent thirty minutes ago. A further search
of the vehicle yielded a straw with a powder residue as well
as Vicodin and Xanax pills that Ms. Wourms said were not prescribed
to her. As a result of the stop Deputy Travaglio arrested Ms.
Wourms for multiple counts of possession of drugs and possession
of drug paraphernalia. For his role Mr. Collins was issued
a minor misdemeanor citation for possession of marijuana.
On 5 Jan 09 Deputy Sheriff S. Travaglio responded
to the scene of an attempted suicide at Southgate Trailer Park.
The thirty-eight year old victim inflicted superficial wounds
to her wrist that were deemed superficial. The Reno Fire Department
transported the woman to Marietta Memorial Hospital for treatment
and evaluation.
On 5 Jan 09 Deputy Sheriff S. Travaglio issued
a citation to Michael L. Hall, age 57, 411 Hadley Hollow Road,
Marietta, for operating a vehicle with license plates that
expired in June 2008. Deputy Travaglio stopped Mr. Hall on
State Route 26 near Goose Run Road in Marietta Township.
On 5 Jan 09 Deputy Sheriff Anderson responded
to the scene of death of a sixty-nine year old Marietta resident.
The man’s death appears natural; no foul play is suspected.
SEX OFFENDER ARRESTED FOR FAILURE TO REGISTER
Larry James Freeland, age 36, of Parkersburg was arrested
on a fugitive from justice warrant as a result of charges filed
on him by the Washington County Ohio Sheriff’s Office
for failing to register as a convicted sex offender in May
of 2008. Freeland was required to notify the Washington County
Sheriff’s Office of any change of address and allegedly
failed to do so when he moved to Wood County WV. Wood County
Deputies were notified of a possible address of the suspect
in Wood County by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office
and they requested assistance in the search for suspect. Deputies
checked an area in the US 50/Meadville Road area and received
additional information from citizens of the suspect’s
possible location in the Staunton Avenue, Parkersburg area.
Deputies checked several locations in this area and were provided
with additional information that led them to Homecrest Apartments
in South Parkersburg.
Upon checking this area Sgt. D.E. Westfall located a vehicle
that matched the description of a vehicle that suspect had
reportedly been in recently. A canvass of this neighborhood
was conducted by road patrol deputies and members of the newly
founded Major Crimes Unit of the Wood County Sheriff’s
Office and through this search a witness informed investigators
that they saw Freeland leaving Homecrest Apartments a short
time before law enforcement arrived. Through further investigation
a contact telephone number was found for a friend of the suspect
and contact was made with Freeland. Deputy Shana Modesitt was
able to keep the suspect on the phone and establish his location
while other units responded and located the suspect in a vehicle
at the Burger King parking lot located at 1900 Pike Street
in Parkersburg. Freeland was taken into custody without incident
by Sgt. G.F. Parsons and Sgt. D.E. Westfall. Freeland was confined
to the regional jail pending extradition proceedings to return
him to Washington County. Deputies returned to the previously
checked areas in Wood County and notified the residents of
the capture of the suspect.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Frank Edwin Maloon, age 30, 4130 White Bridge
Road, Dover, OH, for failure to appear, a misdemeanor. Maloon
was picked up at the Tuscarawas County Jail by Deputy Sheriff
O’Brien and processed into the Washington County Jail
on 5 Jan 09 at 2:39 pm.
Gary Lee Losey II, age 26, 104 Riley Drive Apt. 5, Marietta,
for OVI, failure to control and for hit-skip, all misdemeanors.
Losey was arrested at the intersection of Second and Greene
streets by Patrolman Hively of the Marietta City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 5 Jan 09 at
8:55 pm.
Kenneth Eugene Wriston, age 34, 303 38th Street, Vienna, for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines,
a misdemeanor. Wriston was arrested on Turkeyhen Road in Fleming
by Deputy Sheriff K. Travaglio and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 5 Jan 09 at 9:15 pm.
James William Radabaugh, age 22, 345 Seventh Street, Marietta,
for driving under a suspended license, a misdemeanor. Radabaugh
was arrested on State Route 7 by Deputy Sheriff Mankins and
processed into the Washington County Jail on 5 Jan 09 at 9:40
pm.
